Froggies! [May. 11th, 2003|01:24 am]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Wow - we just took a brief walk around the lake, and we saw literally over 50 frogs and toads total. I can't believe it! Several varieties too - I need to look some up in our field guide. One frog was covered with ladybugs - he didn't seem to mind at all - it was one of the cutest things =)

AWW!! That sounds so cute!!! What a great idea for a painting! A froggy covered in ladybugs, lol. You are so lucky that you live somewhere where frogs are as common as crickettes. I'd LOVE to live in a place like that =)

I do love it here - nature and wildlife always cheers me up!

You know - while Celebration itself is kinda pricey, there are a lot of nice surrounding areas in Florida where houses an apartments are dirt cheap (at least compared to Kansas City). The cost of living around here seems pretty low.

Re:

I noticed that myself when Zach (my fiance) and I were researching apartments when I was applying for work there. I wonder why that is? I mean, the apartments we were looking at were GORGEOUS for their price. I wanted to move their for the sole purpose of living in one of those apartments, lol. I'm silly like that =) I want more space than what I have now. I'm running out of wall space for one thing, hehe.

One nice thing about the area around here in general is that everything is so new! Since there wasn't much here in Central Florida before Disney moved in 30 years ago, nearly everything has been built since then. While I do like old creaky houses sometimes, it's kind of refreshing to have a lot of new architecture as well!

Re:

It's not just any old architecture. I mean, parts of Northern Virginia where I grew up were NEW, but it was so boring! All of the houses look the same, same lawns, same styles, same EVERYTHING. Typical Suburbia. Celebration is supposed to be a style if its own, or a style to represent the feeling of Disney. At least that is what I read. I've never actually been there =( I mean, the town is named Celebration. How fantastic is that!

Hehe - it was so cute!

We always walk around the lake and on the nature trails at night, and they are all lit up with beautiful lanterns. The lights are always covered with frogs - since they attract a lot of bugs, they are like restaurants for the froggies =)

They don't seem to eat the ladybugs, which are plentiful. The ladybugs like the lights too, and they crawl all over the frogs! I'm not sure if Disney releases extra amounts of ladybugs or something (since they prey on the more pesty bugs), but they are all over the place!

One thing I've noticed is that I haven't gotten a single mosquito bite since I've moved here. I was worried at first (since we live right next to a lake in a swampy area), but I think they must have some sort of mosquito control going on!

Your walks around the lake at night with all the lanterns lit up sounds sooooo nice! That's great that there seem to be no mosquitos around. Maybe they have hidden bug zappers around like those hidden speakers that pump in the music! Hee Hee

Hehe - those are the ones that have their bottoms stuck together all the time, right?

Re:

Ya! Those are the ones :) Did you have Love bugs where you used to live? I will always remember a trip we took to Disney World in the summer time when I was younger. The love bugs were everywhere! Our car was covered with them from driving on the highway. Like hundreds of them! It was really gross!

I don't think we had them back in Missouri - if we did we didn't have as many, lol!
