Jasmine Becket-Griffith
I've been without internet access while they've been working on the cable lines or whatever for the past few hours - I'm so thankful to have it back now!!! I listed two paintings (a little later than usual due to the brief internet outage) - just click below to see them!

Click on these to visit the auctions!
This is "Poison Fairy #9: Psilocybin Mushroom"! I hippie-fied her up quite a bit - since she's the protector of the ahem, "magic mushrooms". (I added some bubbles - Kayti!)I really liked using the bright colours - they're even brighter in real life than in the scan!

This is "The Butterfly Faeries"! They are three sisters! They're a little less grumpy looking than they were yesterday, now they just look somewhere between a little pissed off and vaguely annoyed. It's a bigger piece 14"x18". I'm going to try to do a lot more larger pieces. Even though they take a lot more time to do, they let me put a lot more detail in them!

YAY!!! That poison faery is PERFECT Jasmine! I like how she looks as if she is in the process of eating the magic shroom! Her hair is so pretty, and it looks as if her wings catch all of the rainbowy lights around her! And of course the bubbles just bring it all together! ;) You are so good at doing faces, I envy you. Were you always this good or did you improve when you were schooled?

And the Butterfly Sisters are REALLY good. I love those expressions you use! They look a bit bored, or tired maybe? They are thousands of years old and immortal. I'm betting it gets pretty boring at times, lol. No wonder they're such mischievous creatures!

Thanks ;)

Not to sound anti-education or anything (no, not me, hehe), but I didn't really learn much as far as artistic skills in college. If I hadn't gotten a free ride scholarship I wouldn't have really bothered (in retrospect, I'm not sure I would have gone anyways - I don't use my bachelor's degree for anything obviously). I was placed on independent study for the vast majority of my courses, which meant that I painted at home and showed up once and awhile to share my work. Any skills at all that I have are just from my own practicing, and years and years of painting!!! I did learn about digital art more and I got lots and lots of practice in my life drawing class, and I had a couple of great & interesting professors though, and that was fun =)

I know exactly what you mean about my Butterfly Faeries! I tried to make them look young, but to let their eyes betray that they are old souls, and have some wisdom. It looks like you picked up on that!

You got a free ride? My God! You are very lucky. I'm actually very anti-education. Actually, I just don't quite approve of the grading system. There are a few colleges that don't use the grading system like, I believe Bennington in Vermont, but they are like $10,000 a year. WAY too much money for me!

I was just wondering if school could teach any techniques. I suck at painting, but I've been trying SO hard to teach myself. I usually learn way better by just teaching myself independently. I'm not very good at "fitting in" to a ciriculum, lol. So I'm hoping with more practice I'll be able to figure out the whole shading thing. Maybe there is book I can get that will teach me. I think I'll go to Barnes and Noble tommorow. That will give me an excuse to get a frappucino!!! YUMMMM!! I'm so addicted to those things, lol.

And yes, they definitely look like old souls. It's amazing how you can capture that feeling with paint! =)

Hehe - yep. I got straight A's from kindergarten through college, and I aced my SAT and ACT tests, so I pretty much just got to pick where I wanted to go. Lol, then I went ahead and went to the local state university since I didn't want to move right then, and I was getting serious with Matt (who lived by me in Missouri). I'm glad I decided not to go to an ivy league or big name school - I don't think it would have helped my professional or personal life at all (since I don't really need a degree or anything to be self-employed, and I'm glad I didn't have to leave Matt!!!).

That's awesome! Straight A's from kindergarten through Highschool? WOW! Now that is pretty impressive I must say.

I respect your decision not to go off to some preppy ivy league school so you can be "refined" or whatever, lol. Love is always the obvious choice to me. I've been with my fiance for five years on June 14. He came into my life right when I needed him the most. I was in a very abusive relationship and Zach (my fiance) moved into the apartment where my boyfriend at the time and I lived. I was 17 when I moved out of my parents house, and I dropped out of school to do so. I regret that decision a lot, but somehow I feel that if I finshed highschool and gone to college I never would have met Zach. To never meet your soul mate? Nah. Everything happens for a reason. Zach's my very best friend in the whole wide world. We do everything together. I don't know who or where I'd be if we never met.

Pardon me I seem to be rambling. Anyway =) ...You have natural talent. They can't just teach that to people. Your born with it!!
