Oh dear. I just came back from H&R Block and we owe a phenomenal, unanticipated amount in taxes. Argh. This really couldn't come at a worse time.|

You must have forgotten about multiple deductions since you are a small business owner. You know....things like the litter boxes that double as drawing tables. That kind of stuff
Lol - I know =) They gave me hints on what things I can claim as expenses and keep receipts for next year!
Oh No! I'm so sorry :( Is it due to you having your own home business? I was lucky this year I had purchased so many big ticket items for my business that I actually showed a loss for the year, though I really made money. Anyway you look at it Taxes Suck! I was told to put 15% of all my gross sales into savings to cover my taxes for next year. 15% is a big chunk of change! Why do we get penalized so bad for working at home! I just don't understand :(
Just a fraction of it was from my work, the bulk of it was from Matt's stupid job (we file jointly) that for some reason only witheld a tiny, tiny percentage of the taxes that they should have. That and having to pay both Kansas & Missouri taxes (gotta love living on a state line and working in one state and living in another...) and they didn't bother withholding Kansas City tax since he technically works in a Kansas suburb. Grr... I look forward to living in Florida where we'll only have to pay one tax instead of four!
Oh I see, So you have a state tax for both Kansas & Missouri. That's bad it's like they hit you guys twice! Yes, no state tax here in Florida :) It makes things a lot less complicated.
Eeek! that's awful. Is it maybe one of those things you can pay in installments...which would still suck but might be easier to handle until you get all moved and settled again.
taxes.. the governments way of screwing us even more than they do on a daily basis. sorrys about that. maybe we should start a save the jasmines fund.. hehe. i know the feeling
