Heart Walk, Kids in the Hall, and new OSWOA Paintings! [May. 24th, 2008|08:18 am]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
I had a BLAST on Thursday night!!

We saw the Kids in the Hall Live at the Hard Rock Ampitheatre at Universal Studios. I really like that venue - it's fairly small (which I like, it's not one of those huge 80,000 people arenas where you can't see anything!) and personal, and very nice inside. The "Kids" were FANTASTIC as always! It was a great show, they did some classic skits, and then about 75% of the rest was all NEW material, which was hilarious! It was so cool, almost like I'd stumbled upon a couple of episodes of the show I'd somehow missed or something. Ihave the DVD set and know all the skits almost by heart, so it was a real treat to see new stuff as well as old.

Before the show, we went to Jimmy Buffett's "Margaritaville" bar and got wonderful drinks. Gotta love Jimmy Buffett =)

In other news - my sister Kachina (sunkachina) and her children Theo and Ellie are participating in the Heart Walk up in Kansas City to raise money in the fight against Heart Disease. Theo is only 4, and Ellie is only 2 - I think it is really cool that they are doing an event like this so very early in life, and I want to encourage them!

If anybody has a little extra change to donate for their Heart Walk fundraiser (very good cause - I'm sure most of us have known somebody affected by heart disease) - you can visit their donation site here:

Let me see - what else is new....

Mostly I've been working on a new project - a new direction for some of my artwork - basically a combination of 3-d and 2-d artwork, involving a lot of wood work, sculpting, casting, powertools and more (Matt is helping a lot, hehe). I should have my first piece finished up tomorrow or the next day - so be on the lookout!

In the meantime, I have some three original cute little 4"x6" OSWOA™ paintings!

OSWOA™ stands for "Original Small Work of Art" - if you search OSWOA on eBay you'll find lots of actual original artworks from great artists - all the same size - 4"x6" - that is a great size because it is a standard photo size, perfect for photo albums, photo sleeves, frames, etc. These are actual, original paintings - NOT prints of any kind. I have three of them for you today: "My Pet Bumblebee," "Tiny Sugar Skulls," and "A Dolphin Friend," - all are ORIGINAL acrylic paintings on 4"x6" sheets of cotton canvas (larger than my usual "mini paintings"). Due to OSWOA™ rules, the auctions must start at $9.95 instead of my usual .01 penny auctions, sorry about that! No worries though, I will have some penny-auctions soon too. Each is up for a 7 day auction up on eBay - ending on Friday, May 30th at 7:20PM -7:33PM Central Time and you can see them below (scroll down to the bottom of my "Originals" page or click on the OSWOA link on the menu to see them!:

Click HERE and then SCROLL DOWN to see the new OSWOA Original paintings!

Or individually, click below:

I hope everybody is enjoying their 3-day weekend. I'm celebrating Memorial Day by PAINTING ALL DAY EVERY DAY =)

We play our Kids in the Hall DVDs all the time, too!

Can't wait to see them in Atlanta tonight.... I was already excited, now even moreso; I always hoped we'd see new KITH skits one day.

Since you're a Kids In The Hall fan, I have to recommend a Canadian tv series to you that was created and written by Mark McKinney, it's called Slings & Arrows. All 3 seasons are on dvd and it's SOOOOO good. It's about a theater troupe. It starts off slow, but once it gets going, it's brilliant. :)

Thank you Lindy!

Hehehe, I love Mexican liquor! In Mexico you can buy hollowed-out pineapples and they fill them up with tequila, I love them!

Oh my goodness, tequila makes me feel sick. Just the smell makes me sick!
But served in Pineapples sounds really nice!

That place is awesome! It is such a relaxing, "escapism" type of place. I had a few pineapple martinis - man they were good!

Last year my sister went to Dragoncon and brought back a print of Emerald Guardian. The print is very beautiful, but has more meaning then you could imagine.
In the summer of 06' my husband of ten years was killed in a car crash. Both of us love asian art and had decorated our house with many pieces. I have loved dragons since I was a child and when I met my husband I found out he did too. On top of that his Chinese zodiac sign is the dragon.
To see an elf, which I love too, guarded by an asian dragon hit home. I also have dark hair and it was a symbol of him watching over me and protecting me, which I know he does every day. To loose ones soul mate is devistating, but your painting brought me much comfort. My print is in a place of honor near things of his that are very important to me.
Thank you for creating the Emerald Guardian.

Re: Greatfull

I wanted to thank you so much for sharing your story with me. I'm so sorry to hear about your husband, I can't even imagine how hard that could be, it breaks my heart.

It makes me proud to think that one of my paintings could bring any sort of comfort or happiness like that. Thank you for taking the time to let me know - I often wonder what happens to my artwork after it gets purchased, and it makes me feel very good to hear that it's truly being appreciated, and that somebody thinks so specially of it! =) =) =)

I just wanted to tell you that I love the new "HOPE" fairy. I am not one who really likes pink, but this makes me want to wear it all the time. I also wanted to say that I love all of you paintings. Especially the gothling ones.
