Alannah - new painting - book illustrating..... [Sep. 11th, 2007|05:58 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Hey everybody! As I mentioned before, I'm illustrating a book of short stories (written by the talented authors Kachina Glenn & Amber Logan!). It's a daunting task requiring dozens of illustrations, but I have just finished the first one and she is BEAUTIFUL! One of the best paintings I've done. I'm able to offer the paintings for sale along the way, so be on the lookout for more soon. The book will not be out for quite some time, but I will let you know when it is published, too.

"Alannah" is the name - it is an portrait of one of the girls in the book I'm doing the illustrations for. It is a hauntingly beautiful painting - I'm very proud of her. Alannah is a girl who lives in an ancient cathedral, as a caretaker. She has grey swirling hair, striking grey eyes, and wings made out of stone. I have shown her standing in the cathedral with a candle in her hands and a key on a necklace around her neck. There are stained glass windows in the background, with light filtering in. The cathedral is actually based visually on one I visited on my trip to France this summer! She's quite large and very, very detailed - measuring 16"x20" - original acrylics on sheet of canvas. This piece may be of particular interest to collectors as she will be published in an upcoming book (ie, she might be famous someday, hehe!). This original painting is up on eBay starting at just ONE PENNY with no reserve for a 10-Day auction ending the evening of Friday, September 21st at 4:55PM Central Time. You can see a sneak peek of her now, but just click the picture or link to see the full painting!:

Clcik HERE to see my "Alannah" ORIGINAL PAINTING!!!

To see any OTHER available originals, just visit my Original Paintings section of my store here (and feel free to use the "Make Offer" option on these, if there's one you have your eye on....):

That's all for now ..... Enjoy the new painting!

This painting is just gorgeous! The lighting is amazing, and the background must have taken forever. And the figure is painted beautifully, of course! I love that you even took the fact that the candle light behind the fingers would make the fingers glow with a reddish color. Its little details that draw me into your paintings. Stone wings sound fascinating. I can't wait to see the finished story!

That is probably one of the most expressive and adorable face I've seen you painting for sure, I'm in love with her, I want to be her friend!!! There's so much spirits around the whole painting, and for some reasons I can feel some of the ambiance/feelings we had in France in it, remember one of the first place we visited the day of the pic-nic, there was an old church with a pretty neat small cemetery where there was a rose inside a glass globe sitting on a tomb ( sorry my english sucks too much to find the correct words XD ) I took some reference pics of you in front of the main door, anyway, this painting reminds me of the atmosphere there !!!!! It's gorgeous! You rock, and I miss you dearly!

I really like the wispy tendrils of hair at her neck. It's a very haunting effect - they look alive!

Oh a new fave for me! so sweet and sad (two of my favorites) and I love how you are able to adapt your style to the story, this image is different than your others (to my eyes at least)
I'm really curious about her story, if I saw her on a cover I would not be able to resist.. stone wings? indeed!

The story sounds mysterious. When the book is published I am going to see if I can get a copy someday, haha.

Just an idea...

Hi! Just would like to say I LOVE your work! There is so much detail in your paintings, it bewilders me! I'm also fascinated with fantasy and fairies...I've been all my life (even though i'm only a young teenager..)!

Anyways, getting to the point: maybe whenever you have time you could paint a fairy with music notes, or playing an instrument or something? It's just an idea, and i'm not obliging you to do it if you don't want to.

Thank-you and goodbye!
