I had a good day yesterday - we went with Heather, Amber & Chris out grocery shopping all day, hehe. First we went to the "Oriental Super Store" on Colonial Drive down by Little Saigon. It's the largest Asian grocery store I have seen in my life. It is actually in a former Wal-Mart building, to give you an idea of how big it is. |
They have a couple of aisles full of vegetarian stuff too - even a whole aisle of frozen vegetarian Asian foods. All sorts of great stuff. Tons of veggie Gyozas, dumplings, steamed buns, dim-sum, etc. Whole smoked "fake" veggie chickens, fake chicken drumsticks (with wooden bones), vegetarian versions of pork balls, fish balls, lobster rolls, abalone, it's crazy how much stuff they had. We stocked up!!
Then we stopped at the Garden Cafe (right down the way from there) - an all vegetarian Chinese restaurant. We all split the sweet & sour "pork", canton "pork", Mandarin "chicken", General Tso's, Sesame "chicken", and it was all tasty.
Then we went to the Whole Foods up in Winter Park and stocked up on more stuff. We had gift certificates there from our step-grandma for Christmas, and got a lot of stuff!
Now I'm home and thinking about what to buy with my gift certificate for VegeCyber = http://www.vegecyber.com = there is so much stuff I want...... I seriously need to buy one of those big freezers to put out in the garage, I buy so much frozen specialty foods.
We've been working on a big wholesale order, we have been so busy! We have been doing more orders in January so far than we were in December, believe it or not.
Today I'm getting ready to start painting.... I think I will be doing something with Orchids for EBSQ's "Flower of the Month" show! Haven't quite decided what to do for it, but you can peek in on me on my webcam HERE while I figure it out......
Oh yes! YAY - "Queen of Insects" has found a home!!!!!
And oh yes, again - I want to plug my step-sister Sonya's new paintings. This is my step-sister up in Kansas City who is the painter, not to be confused with my sister Kachina the author, or my sister Amber who does the collages, hehe. I have a lot of talented sisters. Sonya (dedlobster) has a website that can be seen here:
and she has some nifty retro/pinup girl/cocktail paintings up on eBay right now: Click here to see Sonya's Auctions
/end plug ;0)
Okay, off I go!
"Oriental Super Store" on Colonial Drive down by Little Saigon.
Do you mean the one with the giant statues out front? If so, there's actually a bigger one on Colonial but in the Little China part of town, at the corner of Colonial and Crime Hills.
It's the "Phuoc Loc Tho Oriental Super Market" at 2100 on East Colonial - is that the one?
Oh, okay. Yeah, I can never remember the name so we just affectionately refer to it as "Fuck Luck" :).
WOW Jasmine, sounds like you had a ton of fun! I LOVE Wholefoods! OMG They have the BEST stuff ever! They are the only place I know of (besides my favorite sushi restaurants) that has a fish section that smells good! Not rotten like other stores! Man, I could live in a whole foods!
Veggie chicken legs with wooden bones? Hmmmmm THAT sounds interesting... you might get me started on some of this veggie chicken stuff your post made me hungry! lol!
Your sis has some awesome work, I like pinup art, and her's is no exception! =^_^= Thanks for the plug, hee hee!
There's a restaurant here that puts sugar cane for a the bone in their veggie chicken drummies. It comes with a rose sauce flavored with rose tea. Yum. Have you had YTS veggie ham? Gawd I love that stuff. I'm going to Ranch Market on Friday. Hope they have some. Oh, and pandan cake!
Damn I'm hungry now. We're going to try a new veg place next to the market/asian mall when we go.
I love rose flavoured foods - I bought some rose extract and some rose tea at the market the other day - yum! Matt thinks it smells like "bubble bath" though, lol.
Hehe...speaking of, I tried Bon Vivant today and it's a winner. :-)
I'm going to have to have some of that rose chicken very soon now. Damn cravings! The same place has the best seitan satay too.
Yay! I'm happy that you liked Bon Vivant!
My sister-in-law gave me a vegetarian cookbook from Italy, and it has a Rose Petal Risotto in it that I'm dying to try....
