Swamping & Painting..... [Sep. 10th, 2005|03:20 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Yesterday I went with Matt, my sister Amber & her husband Chris to Wekiva/Wekiwa Springs park (click HERE to see what this lovely place looks like!)! We went canoeing through the spring & river/bayou there, it is amazingly green and beautiful. We were right alongside alligators (even a really big one!) and turtles and snakes and all kinds of wildlife. The alligators really don't even seem to notice you when you go by. We also went hiking on a crazy long beautiful trail that went all through different kinds of Florida wilderness. We only saw two other people on the trail, and even in the springs/river there were hardly any other people. It did rain on us a lot, lol, so I kind of got soaked, but I had an amazing time.

That big painting is gone! I sent off that giant commission in the mail today. My house feels kind of empty without it. Laura (the customer) is very happy with it though, so I know it is going to a good home. Man it is huge - check it out:

To see more details of it, just click on the LiveJournal cut link below:

It really is a beautiful painting, lots of detail. More work than any other commission I've ever done and certainly the BIGGEST! No prints on this one, sorry folks!

I'm off to scan in a sketch for a new commission, and then I might get some more painting this afternoon - not sure yet, I'm so swamped with other stuff right now it's crazy!

OMG!!! That is amazing Jasmine!!!!! :D I love how the little bushes all have different flowers and the fairies are all so pastel-y colorful!! Do you have a close up of the unicorn & fairy in the right corner? This would be so beautiful for a little girl's room.

omg, it makes me think, how could you manage to do shading ext on large spaces because wouldnt the paint dry before you get to the other side?? lol! What size brushes did you use on it??
its amazing.

I actually don't do any blending on the canvas. I paint with a layering/glazing technique - I let each layer dry (usually even use a hairdryer to expedite ther process) and then add a slightly different coloured layer on top. I embrace the fast-dryingness of acrylics, lol. It is time consuming, but I like the effect.

Canoeing with aligators? Sounds cool :P
In South Africa the most dangerous animals we had in our area was Meerkats and turtles (in the wold) haha! And here in Holland its probably mice. LOL

The commision is very sweet! I love the little house
