Back to work! [Jul. 8th, 2005|12:36 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
We had a wonderful time visiting my family up in Kansas City!

We drove up with Chris & Amber in our van, and we stayed at Kachina, James & Theodore's house. We had a birthday party for Chris & Amber (their birthdays are close) at my dad's house, which was a lot of fun.

We got to see Matt's sister Sarah & her little girl Cielo - we brought Kachina along with us so Theodore could play with Cielo - it was really cute!

Fourth of July was awesome as always - we had a picnic with my mom's side of the family in the morning, and then in the afternoon/evening we went to St. Joseph to my grandma's house for our yearly gathering (we kind of use July 4th as a family reunion day for my dad's side of the family). We bought tons and tons of fireworks and I blew up so many of them - fun! We "modified" the little rolling tanks and had tank battles that got a little crazy. In the evening we set off the big sky stuff, there were some good ones this year. We also got to meet my Aunt Pat's new horses and my grandma's new dog, all of which were really cute! And of course we ate a TON of food (vegetarian cookout stuff, tons of other stuff).

We also got to check out Sonya & Paul's new house - it is awesome, and it's frickin' huge!

Then we had a birthday party for Amber & Chris at my mom's house, with yummy Chinese food.

I forget what all we did on our trip - we saw lots of relatives and it was pretty action-packed! When we drove back, Amber & Chris drove down their Jeep (it was still in KC from last month), and Matt & I came in the van. We had their pet degu in the back, lol (he was still up in Kansas City too).

Now we're back home and I miss everybody =( And I have so much work to do! I've been trying to sort out emails this morning and I'm going to take a break now to do some painting!

I have some canvas prints to paint and then I might work on some minis! I'm still in a kind of dazed "I've-Been-On-Vacation" mood, so I'll probably wait until tomorrow before I start any full-sized paintings, hehe.

Pretty soon though I will be working on a *giant* commissioned painting! And I do mean giant - by anybody's standards. It will be 60"x48" (that's 5 feet across!). That's larger than I normally accept for commissioned projects but since it's for one of my favourite customers, I couldn't refuse, lol. That will be quite an undertaking!

For now though, I'm working on some little minis =) Sometime soon I might try some ACEOs too (I've been getting an incredible number requests for those from people who collect them!).

All righty - off to work I go! You can peek in on me HERE on my webcam!

They do look a little similar, but they're really quite different. Kind of kangaroo-rat-ish in a way, hehe. They're also very clever and sociable with humans.

Matt will cut me a big board of MDF probably - I typically have to do that with the uber-big ones.

Im glad you had a good time. I know that dazed feeling of coming back from being on a trip, I usually have that feeling to and just need to spend a day getting use to being at home and getting rid of all the active hyper energy from the trip.

Wow though, "It will be 60"x48"" Im sure it will be an undertaking, But Im sure your getting a bunch of money from this commission too, extra cash is always nice! I hope that they allow you to show us the painting on your LJ or something, id really be interested in seeing one of your paintings on such a large scale. :)

Glad to have you back on LJ :)

I'll double check, but I think they'll be fine with me working in front of the cam =)

I think it's too big to actually scan for prints though - I don't think my computer could handle it, memory-wise.

your art

Hi, I just wanted to pay my compliments to you, you do an outstanding job, you've painted so many beautiful and creative pictures, keep up the good work, it amazes me how many you've done, how impressive, and they are all different and unique...how do you think of them all??? Well, it's very impressive, I plan on buying a whole bunch of prints to frame for my daughter's room (she's 6 months), but I think she will love the colors and imagination as she grows older :)

i hope you have a lovely weekend...i am still imagining you painting something as big as yourself almost. that is insane...i will be so impressed. you could always take a digi cam picture..it wont come out super clear or anything but we could see the lifesized painting..actually i would like to see a picture of you standing next to it..and i am sure the person it is for would get such a kick out of that.

oh well, off to run errands.

Welcome back. Glad to hear that you had a great 4th of july. I hope you weren't being the house guest from hell. LOL. (for those who don't know I recently had the house guest from hell. I'm so glad they are gone.)

Good luck on your new painting. 5 feet is huge. You might as well tilt the dining room table (assuming your dinging room is as long as ours) and use that as your easel.

I guess this person really wanted a mural for their wall.

Again welcome home and good luck painting this one. I hope your hand doesn't fall off. So if we hear that you are in hospital we know why. You hand fell off after all. LOL
