Painting! [Jun. 6th, 2005|11:28 am]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Good morning!

I'm painting! You can watch me HERE!

I finished my beautiful mermaid painting last night - she turned out really pretty! I'm working on some little mini paintings right now.

I might try to "auto-list" the mermaid and whichever minis I finish up on eBay later to start tonight - I'm going with my family to Epcot this afternoon/evening - I'll post when I know the links!

Oh! I don't think I knew about it.... hmm.....

If it's one of my pictures that's licensed on stickers or something I know a lot of stores that carry them will use them in their advertising, it might be something like that......

Heya. My name's Andy. I first saw your journal via foxmagic's journal. It's been a secret fantasy of mine since I was little to live as a full time artist, and lemme just say, props to you for making it happen for yourself! You do beautiful work, and it's always nice to see talent being appreciated.

I'm timid about selling my own paintings, but have considered trying to put something on Ebay, just to see what happens. I was wondering if you would mind filling me in on the nitty gritty. For example, have you ever had any problems with Ebay charging you improperly? How often do people fail to follow through on their bids? How successful has your business on Ebay been in general?

I know you're likely busy, but I figured it was worth a shot. No hard feelings if you don't feel like fielding questions from a newbie, hehe. :)

Pleased to meet you! Happy to help =)

I've never had any problems with eBay really! The company itself has never over-charged me (there was one time they neglected to charge me and then made up for it the next month because of some computer glitch, but it wasn't any big deal).

I very very rarely have people who don't follow through with bids on auctions - it's been well over a year since it's happened, and I've probably had a couple thousand eBay transactions since then. Certainly it doesn't happen enough to be much of a concern to me =)

eBay is a great place to start out - I've been selling there for between 5-6 years and I would highly recommend it!

It can be a sloooow start though - it was a couple of years before I developed enough of a fan base to make my living off of it. I sold a lot of paintings for very small amounts of money in the beginning. If you are persistent though, it pays off =) I may not be the best example of an "ebay artist" per se, since most of my fans/customers know me from other channels (mostly my website, books, merchandise, etc.) and they follow me to eBay rather than necessarily finding me through eBay, but it is still a great source of exposure and income.

Consistently having listings is important (gotta keep your stuff up there so people keep seeing you and remembering you!) as well as good customer service (a huge percentage of my sales are to return buyers!!!). Originality is important too - that helps people notice you and remember your name =)

I definitely suggest playing around and trying to list a few items just to test the waters though - it might lead to great things! And don't get discouraged if it takes a while before you start making much money, it sure took me awhile, lol.
