Hedgehogs! [Apr. 2nd, 2005|07:36 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
I was looking through old photos with Matt (we found them in my dad's basement up in KC during our trip) and came across some early pictures of us together. I should post some of them ;)

I found some ones of our first pet together - "Reznor" my little hedgehog. He passed away many years ago. We had a cement headstone for his grave that looked just like him, and we took it along with us when we moved to Florida - he guards our front door now, right inside our house =)

He was a good little guy - a very strange pet, and often kind of grumpy, but I know he loved me. I miss him a lot, and I probably talk about him still everyday.

I've always had a soft spot for hedgehogs since then, and thought I'd try painting some - man - they are quite complicated to paint with all of those quills!

Today for a change I thought I'd paint outdoors! Sorry I couldn't figure out how to get the webcam that far away (need more USB extensions maybe?), hehe. So I've been painting all day on a new painting with a bunch of hedgehogs in it! It was a lot of fun painting outside - I sat on our patio furniture under the gazebo and listened to music on my MP3 player, it was very relaxing. I'm going to try to do that now and then, to mix things up a little. It took a little longer since I didn't have my trusty hairdryer to speed up the drying, hehe - I'd say I'm about 1/2 way done. I moved inside now (getting way too dark out there to work) - it's up on my painting table if you'd like to take a peek HERE! Hopefully I'll have it all finished tomorrow, it's simply ADORABLE!!! I've got some other stuff to catch up on - I might be working on it a little later tonight though.... I'm also working on a commission for a candy store (how fun is that?).

So far the computer is working wonderfully - I still have to re-download a lot of stuff and move some back-up files onto the new drive. Fun.

Okay, off I go..........

Painting outside sounds like a lot of fun and very healthy, all that fresh air. i often paint outside @ the cabin and mostly paint on a screened in porch ( there are a ton of bugs during some months in the Adirondacks and the screen is a neccessity then ).

Hedgehogs en plein air ! Fun.

I remember where I used to live, a whole family of hedgehogs (babies and all) would sneak in through the back door from our garden, and steal our old dogs food. I used sit still for hours waiting for them to come, so I could watch them. They are quite extraordinarily strange critters, but I think it would be cool to have one as a pet-even though you couldn't pet it:)

That's so neat how they just live wild in Europe!

Mine was an African pygmy hedgehog. At first he would jump up and down and try to poke us with his quills all the time, but after we'd had him for awhile he became more friendly, and I could hold him. He'd crawl up on my shoulders and hide under my hair, sometimes he'd get stuck there, hehe.

Re-moving-in to a new drive can be fun! It's like rearranging the furniture. :)

It would be so sweet to see the photos of you and Matt!
Hedgehogs are lovely little things, although I've not had one as a pet :( When I go away on holiday I usually go to one of those holiday camp places and I always go on a little hedgehog-rescue-mission lol! Me and my brother found one stuck in a drain behind one of the holiday bungalows a few years ago and since then I have to check parts of the camp to make sure there aren't any there hehe!
Painting outside sounds great! I tried doing that once but my babies (aka my tortoises) came over and decided to try to eat my sketch book and bite the bottles of paint hehe.

Re: morphing pics

Oh! Well, the hard part is spending a few days doing the actual acrylic painting, hehe!

After the painting is scanned in, then it's pretty easy. I go into Photoshop and make it 100 x 100 pixels. Then I get the photo - sometimes I already have the photo if I used it as a pose reference for that specific painting. Otherwise I'll sit in front of my webcam until I can get the same expression and face angle as in the painting if I do it the other way around.

Then I line up the two 100x100 pictures, and go into JASC Animation (it came free when I bought Paint Shop Pro) and set them as the first and last frames of the animation. I use the "morph" option to make the "inbetweens", and save as an animated .gif file, optimizing it to keep it under the max size of 40kb that LiveJournal allows.

It's honestly not as complicated as it sounds! The hard part is first making a good painting, lol.

Hi Tasha!

I do have a license for T-shirts, but no - they're not out for sale yet! Is it on the Hot Topic website? It probably isn't one of mine, but it could be a rip-off.........

At the Milennia Mall?

It's most likely not one of mine, I don't license any shirts currently sold there, and I just spoke to a licensing agent a few minutes ago who assured me that it wouldn't be one of mine since it's not contracted and Hot Topic takes licensing very seriously.

I'll have to take a look up there sometime to see if I can figure out which one you mean, hehe!
