Lol, yeah - I feel like I really had to enter this time! I also wanted to make a new one for the show (didn't want to be redundant with the banner, hehe). I think though your own entry wins hands down though, that's one of the best drawings I've ever seen - you've got my vote!

What exactly is a "tiki"?
Thank you, Adam!
"Tiki" is a Polynesian word for the old gods/spirits that were worshiped by most of the old island people. A "tiki" now mostly refers to the carved wood or stone god statues from the old island cultures (typically Pacific Islanders from Polynesia, Hawaii, etc.). They all had little totems, mostly these masculine symmetrical menacing-looking statues. There are a lot of them here in Florida, often they are carved out of the base of a palm tree.
In the last half century, the term "tiki" also has come to mean the decor and culture inspired by tropical regions. Tiki culture started getting popular in the USA after World War II - a lot of soldiers were stationed in the islands and grew to like it, and when they came back to the US they were a little "homesick" for tropical things. That's when "tiki bars" started springing up, and rum-based and tropical fruit drinks started popping up (like Pina Coladas, Mai Tais, that kind of thing). There was a big surge of that kind of thing in the 1950s-60s. And then in the past few year's there has been kind of a tiki subculture with a whole "retro" kind of thing that embraces and preserves the early US tiki culture. And then of course here in Florida a lot of that stuff is always popular anyways, lol.
Hehe, didn't mean to write an essay here!
Thanks for the history lesson, Miss Becket-Griffith...very interesting.
"Settle down class...QUIET IN THE BACK THERE!!" hehehe
Hmmm...and I always thought Mai Tai's were something else...maybe that's just in Thailand though...lol
