I'd like to be in a position to do that sort of thing out of the blue within the next 10 years. That's my goal. Hopefully within that time Matt will no longer have to work and I'll hire him to do my custom framing/matting for my artwork (he's got many years of experience in running a frame shop, so that works out perfectly.). Even if I'm not doing phenomenally well, we are both incredibly resourceful people, so that is feasible. We both don't care for working very much (who does?) and I'd rather live a little more budget-consciously and be able to spend more time goofing off with Matt than to have a little more extra money but have to miss him so much. What's the point in that? So - to clarify, my intentions are more based in hedonism than laziness =)
Then we can both be silly and have vacations all the time. By then I'll have some sort of nice highspeed wireless internet laptop setup and I'll be able to work from all over the world whenever I need to do online art stuff. Heck, who knows what the future of Wi-Fi like things will be developed within the next few years...
We're on the right track though - after we move Matt is going to cut down to 4 days a week for work. After a few years of cushy apartment living we'll probably spring for a house (we'll see how my career goes, lol), and then I'll have a workshop type room to use for a frameshop area for Matt to do that stuff.
Yep, that's the plan.
