Waterlogged.............. [Dec. 8th, 2004|03:51 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Still working on that Ophelia, lol! She is coming along so beautifully though - this might indeed be my best (one of my best, at least) so far. I should be finished by tonight!!!!!!! I keep staring at it, I just love it so. We took a break this morning and went to Home Depot and Matt stocked up on some more tools and wood and stuff to make some work-tables for out in the garage. For those who don't know, we are building a workshop for him out there that will eventually be a framing/matting service that I will be able to offer with my paintings and prints!!

Normally I'd put something like this in my eBay store with a fat pricetag, but since it's Christmas I'm going to put her up for auction instead (penny with no reserve! woohoo!) - Matt is making Post Office visits almost everyday now, so we should have no problem getting everything out in time for Christmas this week and next week easily!

Watch me paint HERE!

I'll definitely make Matt snap a photo of me next to the finished piece to show you all how BIG it is!!!!!!!

It'll definetely be interesting to see how high everyone bids! She was looking so lovely when I had a peek at your webcam last night!
That sounds great, offering a framing service. I bet loads of people will want that!

My browser doesn't support your webcam =( but oh well...Can't wait to see her finished. I'm sure she'll go for a bunch....You're too talented. Good idea about the framing/matting service.

the framing/matting workshop sounds like fun... I'm actually starting to like going to Home Depot these days. It's less going to the store, and more what I could do with the stuff I can buy there. Hehe.

I really love that you are so open about your love of your work. All artists love their work and should be proud when they do something good! I actually got some mean comments from another artist when I talked positively about some of my own pieces that showed improvement on my part. For the longest time I felt self concious about saying I was proud of my work out loud, and then I realized that I shouldn't care about what anyone thinks, and it's stupid not to be proud when you've done something well. Anyways it just makes me feel even better to see an artist as talented as yourself take pride in your work too.

I can't wait to see the finished product. Every time I go to look at the webcam I miss it somehow- I think it was off at one point or something, and then another time it just wouldn't load for me! So I will just have to wait for the scan to see it (sigh!).

Thank you, Amanda! I know what you mean, I don't ever want to come off as arrogant or anything like that (I sometimes get snarky emails from people that say "Why on earth would you be proud of that?" and that kind of thing, hehe). But, it's important to me also to be honest and if I really like something I did, I think I'm entitled to say so (especially since this is my personal journal as well as being there for fans & business stuff - a lot of people forget that, I think! I started off on LJ just using in lieu of a written paper diary, hehe - and if I did something I was proud of, I'd write it in that too!).

It's also a pet peeve of mine when people preface a new artwork with "OMG, I know this piece SUX so hard - it's really crappy - but you guys might want to look at it and see how much it SUX -" - lol, like half of the descriptions at Elfwood for example. And then the commenters, or their friends or whatever will spend the whole time trying to console them "oh, it doesn't suck - you are wonderful" etc. I don't like seeing people tear something down before showing it (especially when it DOESN'T suck, lol). So I try to steer away from that. If that makes any sense!
