Good morning, all! [Nov. 21st, 2004|11:29 am]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Another beautiful day!

We went to the farmer's market and got a lot of fresh produce and some vegetarian bratwursts =)

I'm touching up a custom painting right now and then I will start on a new original - you can watch me HERE!

Hey Jasmine, I was looking through your "retrospective" pages and I would LOVE to see you do some pieces like the ones on those pages-I love the darker ones like Chained Kiss, and your H.R. Giger inspired ones. I have to say that some of those sketches are my favorite pieces of yours!

Thank you Deanna!!!! I do get a lot of people asking me to do more "dark" work, so I try to from time to time. I think I might be leaning back into that direction again, really....

Hi Jasmine,
Watching you paint is magical! (very entertaining) Are you ready for PBS? I was wondering what that sparkler thing or match? What was that for? Just curious.
Hugs,
Kimbearly

Thank you Kim! PBS here I com!!! ;)

Oh!!! Was it my incense maybe? I often burn incense sticks while I paint - that always makes a nice environment for my creativity, for some reason....

Mmmm, farmer's markets...I can't WAIT to get back to California. Just three or four more months, I guess. Then it'll be farm honey, fresh flowers, organic produce, and locally-produces almonds every Tuesday!

I'm glad you guys have that so close by there. I miss not eating like a Texan.

How was the bratwurst?

Sounds yummy!

The painting looks nice, but the cam is so small on my computer I can hardly make anything out. Good for suspense I guess.

It's interesting that everyone is telling to do darker stuff. I have my gothy sympathies so I love your darker stuff too. But at the same time, seeing the full range of your work is so great, because it shows your talent.

Like, looking at something like hunger pangs which is dark, and in a kind of realistic style, and then "looking for fairies" which is so rich, and kind of "painterly" (like it seems to reflect something of those gorgeous colorful 1700 and 1800 European paintings I go see in the Nat'l Gallery, but with a beautiful lush background, like classic American painting). And then I could look at one of the more colorful Gothlings, so that's more like anime (spelling--duh?). So it shows you can do lot's of different things well.

So, after rambling endlessly, I guess I'm saying you should keep the variety up. You'll paint dark stuff again, and it'll probably get bid out of the ballpark because everyone has been waiting for it. But don't stress about it in the meantime.

Re: How was the bratwurst?

Thank you, Neva!!!! >^__^< I really enjoy working with a broad range of emotions, colours, etc. It really depends a lot on what mood I'm in, or even what music I'm listening to at the time.

Hehe, you would think so, but historically my darker paintings have been some of my worse sellers, lol.

"but historically my darker paintings have been some of my worse sellers, lol."

I guess that's because all the gothy people lurking around LJ are broke, but the sunshiney folks out in the real world are the ones with the $$$. But you never know, I guess, sometimes it's going to depend on the time of year (in summer everyone is on vacation) or other stuff that has nothing to do with the painting. :) That's funny though, and it's kind of interesting to hear.

Re: How was the bratwurst?

LOL! I think you're right, hehe - all of my goth fans are broke, lol!!! Y'know, I do sell more prints of my darker art so there may be some truth to that! I think that it just has a more select audience, and some aspects are kind of alienating to some people. Eh, who knows.

Nowadays though, my primary income comes from prints rather than originals, so I'm slowly getting to experiment more with my new paintings without having to rely so much on pleasing all of the people, all of the time.....

Lol, this is a like a repeat of when you used the word 'candy corn' and I had no idea what it was, whats a bratwurst?! Lol! I don't think that word gets used in the UK, I've never heard anyone use it lol!

Oh! It's actually a German word - it is a type of sausage, much fatter and more spices and things (often cooked with beer) than a hotdog. Of course, we're vegetarian folks, so we buy vegetarian bratwursts - Tofurky (a brand that mostly makes vegetarian turkeys but is branching out to other fake meats) makes a wonderful Beer Bratwurst - our local hotdog vendor sells them!

Thank you!!! This one is actually a new original (I finished up the custom last night - she was a cutie too, hehe!) It is of a girl in a sort of odalisque pose, and she's surrounded by big frogs (her little outfit is made out of slimey leaves!).
