New Painting [Oct. 22nd, 2004|08:50 am]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
((EDIT: About a dozen people on my friend's list have told me that this post was not showing up on their friend's lists last night, so I've just re-posted it all, lol - %$&#@ LiveJournal's servier is being a bastard!))

Here it is.....click below to see......

"Dia de los Muertos"

I'm so very pleased and proud of how it turned out! There's an incredible amount of detail in there that really can't be appreciated through the computer, I wish I could just show her off in person to everybody =(

I'm going to enter her up at the EBSQ Day of the Dead contest of course! I'll let you all know when the show is up and ready (there are a bunch of other great artists and fellow LiveJournal-ers submitting too, so it should be a hell of a show!).

And since this is a special "seasonal" holiday painting, I have decided to offer prints of it right away too, so it's one of my "SALE" prints this week!

The 8"x10" prints are on sale for $10.00 and can be found here:

"Dia de los Muertos" 8x10
and the 12"x16" prints are on sale for $20.00 and can be seen here:
"Dia de los Muertos" 12x16

In addition I have a couple other of my most recent paintings up as SALE prints:

The 8x10 "Lamenting the Forgotten" prints are $10.00 each and can be seen HERE
The 12x16 "Lamenting the Forgotten" prints are $20.00 each and can be seen HERE

The 8x10 "Hovering at Twilight" prints are $10.00 each and can be seen HERE

and finally the 12x16 "Hovering at Twilight" prints are $20.00 each and can be seen HERE!

I've got a lot of email & LiveJournal catch-up to do! It looks like LJ is being a little wonky and is making multiple posts appear, etc, so I'll try to figure all of that stuff out when I go through your comments, hehe!! Good night all!

Congratulations on this piece Jas'-this is the most sublime piece I've seen from you yet, incredibly detailed and beautifully vivid, I really love how sumptuous your use of colour is. I have every confidence that this piece will swing it at EBSQ.

ps: her little belly is lovely.

Oh, by the way...

In case you don't get a chance to trawl all through my posts (LOL) - showed my mum "The Art of Faery" last night to show her some of the artists whose e-cards are/will be featured on Moondreamer...
And in an interesting co-incidence, she picked 2 artists as her favourite out of the book (although she loved all of it) - Jessica Galbreith and you :) I thinks I need to peruse your website for something scrummy for my mum for Christmas :)

There's a lot of stuff in there!

Mostly Catholic imagery with a little Santeria thrown in, hehe. The candle is based on an Indio one I had for honouring the dead. The "Mary" icon is that of the Virgin of Guadalupe who is revered in Mexico and a lot of hispanic communities. The little sparkly skulls at the bottom are what are called "sugar skulls" which are candies made for el Dia de los Muertos (it's kind of morphed into a Halloween/All Saints holiday over the years!).

I took a little peak at the other ebsq day of the dead painting's, there are so many talented artist's out there!!!!
With that being said :) I still thank you painting will take the prize, you painting is just so detailed and true to what the Holiday stands for ,I just couldn't see you losing :)
Oh , good new's for me :) my dolls are selling better, so I wanted to ask you ahead of time cause very soon I will want a commissioned painting done ...yeah! but could you paint my daughter to look real to life , but giving her fairy wing's???? I hope to have the money to do it by early march , so this is way ahead of time , but I thought it's never to early to ask , because you are always so busy , which is a good thing :)
p.s. I did send you a few pictures of zoe before in your call for models .

Hi Mary!!! Thank you so much!!

Oh yes - Zoe is such a cutie! I'd love to paint her =) I'm already "booked up" pretty much with commissions for the next two months (holiday orders already!!!), but I'd be ready to start a new commissioned project probably right after Christmas. If you'd like me to reserve a spot for you then just email me and let me know!

Okay, now that ebay works, I checked out the Dias painting. Cripes, woman! You're insane! Look at all that detail! No wonder it took so long to finish, sheesh!!! You must have the patience of a saint. If that were me painting it, I would have crapped out around the middle of the painting and just put a giant curtain over the right side, lol. Man, I'm glad I didn't finish my entry, I would be embarassed to post it! ^^;; You definitely have this member's vote, I think you have this one in the bag. I love those jeweled skulls. I can't believe you do this stuff with actual paint. You should have your own painting show on PBS, I would pay to watch on DVD or something.

Thank you, Amanda =) =)

LOL! I must admit, by the end, the thought of putting in a biiiig curtain over one side did start sounding pretty good, hehe!!!
