Painting! [Oct. 18th, 2004|03:56 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
I'm going to take an email break (I got through a lot of important ones, but I've got a lot more to do, but I am desperate to paint.....) to work on what is turning into "Gothling #8" HERE on my webcam!

Oh yes, I will definitely be working on a series called "tattoo faeries" (or maybe "fairy tattoos", to distinguish it from the previous series) - it won't be a remake of my old series, just a similar theme. Lol, I have a million and a half things I'm working on now, but I'll get to them all eventually.....

this one is coming out really nice, and with good intensity.

increasingly I find myself drawn to the landscapes behind the figure, these are often quite ethereal and sort of elusive ... one day when you have time a series of fantastical landscapes would be a really cool series.

also i read your post about your having given a demonstration to your friends that visited you and it would be a great idea for you to head a painting workshop if you ever have a mind to, it could be an organized thing, perhaps with the publicity centered around your new book, with people staying over at one of the disney hotels, or even coordinated with disney, as they have some artistic based programs over there and I bet this would be right up their alley for the sorts of programs they work wity. Just an idea, but i think it would be a very popular vacation + art workshop headed by you ;-) if you ever do such a program, let us know, it would be great fun :-)

I would love, love, love to do something like that! The Disney area is just perfect for conventions and that kind of thing, too! If I ever end up doing something like that, you'll definitely be one of the first to know =)

It's funny, when I was working on this one I actually started thinking about how much fun I have with the "backgrounds" - maybe I should spend some more time on making the landscapes the focal point from time to time.....

the fantastical magical fantasy landscapes of jasmine.

i would be that the flora and fauna around florida could provide some great reference to draw from.

i remember reading somewhere that they have a sort of vacation concept at disney, i think affiliated with epcot perhaps, where they *do* offer art workshops and things like that, something called "camp disney" or some such thing.

I remember reading about it some years ago ... it was supposed to be a sort of concept for adults to be able to pursue some of their interests while vacationing and enabling them to come away with new meaningful skills in their chosen area of interest.

Oh yes! They used to run a program called "The Disney Institute" where they would have short camp-like vacation programs for adults to pursue gourmet cooking, art, gardening, etc. Eventually they decided to turn the institute into part of the Disney Vacation Club (where people buy time-share-like dealies) - I guess it didn't catch on. They do run a lot of short programs like that from time to time though - I think it would be a cool idea!
