We're fine, we're fine!! >^__^ [Sep. 26th, 2004|11:25 am]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Hurricane Jeanne woke me up around 5:00 am - howling away noisily, louder even than Charley or Frances. She's still out there howling away, but we're safe and cozy inside >^__^<

I don't think this looks near as bad as the first two, none of the trees on our block look like they've fallen down.... yet.....

There is water seeping in through that same spot by the back door as last time, so Matt has the wet/dry vac out and is sopping it up every couple of minutes. We need to caulk around the outside of the window & door area before next time, we meant to earlier but this one kind of snuck up on us!

I'm so excited!!! smallgirl is coming to visit us very soon! She'll be staying with us, and tigerpixieart is going to be in town as well (we're going to go to Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights together - woohoo!!!). That'll be in just a couple of weeks!!!

Let me see - I've been answering emails, etc. I've got so much there - I try to sort through the most "important" ones first, like orders, commission/project/book related ones, eBay stuff, etc. Those obviously have to get first priority. The less "important" ones (they're ALL of course important, but some are much less time-sensitive than others) I usually wait until the others are answered first. Less time-sensitive emails include "fan letters" (the "Your art is cool" type letters, which I very much enjoy reading, but sometimes it takes me a little while to get back to them), or "advice" letters (I get a lot of those "How can I be an artist?" "What kind of brushes do you use?" "What art classes should I take?" "How do I scan large paintings?" "How do I open an eBay account?" etc.). And of course I get a lot of "personal questions" type emails ("What type of music do you like?" "Will you marry me?" "How tall are you?" "Why are you a vegetarian?" "Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior?" etc.). I do get back to everybody eventually, but it sometimes takes a little longer to get to the less "pressing" issues, hehe.

I finished that commission yesterday - it turned out great! The client has given me permission to offer prints of her for sale too - she's similar to the pieces in my Gothling series, in black & blue and she's really cute, hehe!

I will be starting a new original painting (maybe a couple!) today - you'll be able to peek in on me HERE! I'll be painting on there shortly.

Good luck to all of you who Jeanne is coming to visit - hang in there!

That's great that you'll have visitors hehe!
Lol, sounds like you get your fair share of odd emails! I've never got a proposal but I've had a few 'Become a Christian today!' emails.

Thats really nice of the client to allow you to make prints. I make sure to ask all of my clients if I can make prints of their commissions, and they usually say yes but most of the time the commissions I do are too weird to make into prints ^^;

Lol - I know what you mean! A LOT of my commissions probably wouldn't sell well as prints, hehe. And lots of them are portraits, which aren't really appropriate to retail. Whenever it's something that I think would do well as a print though, I always ask! I mean, of course I always retain the copyrights myself, but I would never sell prints if the customer didn't want me to.

Brock and I saw some live footage late last night on the weather channel and it looked pretty bad! I was wondering how you guys were doing.

Matt told me about your visitors!! It sounds like so much fun! Oh, and make sure you force him to go on the Back to the Future ride, because everybody should be forced to love it!

Hurricanes sound like an entire years worth of English weather, condensed into a day. Though strangely, the weather is worryingly sedate over here, though I do hear that we are expecting a big one to hit sometime mid week, so maybe its the calm before the storm. Glad you guys are safe-you should intergrate a severe weather theme into one of your pieces Jasmine.

*lol-and the e-mail stuff I can completely relate too. If I had a penny for everytime someone wrote to ask for permission to use my work as a tatoo, or a tile or sig then I'd be able to retire to a nice beach house in...well, not Florida anymore;)

Lol - no kidding - I'd say 90% of my email doesn't even result in a sale (like you mentioned, lots of tattoo, siggie, website, school project, stuff like that). But that's part of the job, I guess! I actually enjoy answering emails like that, it's just the fact that it takes away from my painting time that really bothers me.

^_^

Glad you and Matt made it through the storm OK. It's funny to hear all the e-mails you get from people, especially the personal questions. LOL I think it's sweet that you try your best to get through them all eventually. ^_^ Hopefully you'll always be able to answer your fan mail personally, although it must be annoying when you want to paint, huh?

That is soo nice of your client to allow you to sell prints. What a sweetheart! ^_^

Re: hehe

LOL - Bannister Mall!!!! Hehe!!!!

Oh yes - you'd be surprised! I've run into several people who said that they wanted to make sure I "followed a righteous path" (or something like that) before purchasing artwork from me. Can you believe that? I would think that a person would just buy art because they like it, not because of what religious persuasion the artist is.

I also get a lot of "can I see the reference photo for this painting please?" on my nude paintings - LOL!

LOL, that was funny reading all the personal questions people ask you, But seriously have people really asked "Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior?" just for their own curiosity and not looking for money lol? Most time that question is followed by asking for money.

If people asked me questions like that I would be to well liked I don’t think ha ha, by anyone that is apart of a religious community anyway he he.

I get asked that one quite a lot, surprisingly! I never know how to answer. I mean, I'm not religious at all, but I don't want to offend anybody. One time I wrote back explaining that I'm not a Christian but that I am a highly ethical person, etc. etc. and they wrote a really nasty letter back about how they wouldn't buy my art to further fund my "amoral lifestyle". Geez!

are hurricane damage :( where's the porch go ???????

well are luck has ran out, we stayed the night over at waynes mothers , when we got back to are house we found that are porch was gone!!!! also a ton of shingles where missing :(
we don't have any leaks yet , and we do still have are power , but lakeland was ripped a new one last night, giant trees are down all over the place , store signs are on the ground , and it's still raining and believe it or not the wind is still moving pretty fast argh ........ my mother said her house was still standing but that was about it , she had a ton of giant oak trees in her yard, now she has none!
it still looks scary outside "I want to move some where else !"
Jasmine I thought maybe you could do something about these storms , maybe call upon your fairy friends to kick some hurricane butt!
Scared Mary in lakeland..........

Re: are hurricane damage :( where's the porch go ???????

Oh no!!!! You lost your porch? Did it blow away? That's craziness!!!!!

I'm glad to hear that nobody is hurt and that you still have the power at least!!!

Matt stayed by the back door all day yesterday with the towels and the wet/dry vac getting any leaks. It was a little soggy, but all in all we made it through okay.

Let's hope that will be the END of this hurricane season!!!
