STOP RAINING!!!! [Sep. 6th, 2004|10:35 am]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Seriously - this is getting ridiculous - why won't the wind and rain stop?!?!?!

Matt and I went out and walked around the block to check things out. In our immediate vicinity at least it doesn't seem to have done as much damage as Hurricane Charley did. Only a few smaller trees down, but there are a lot of bigger branches that have fallen, etc. The main problem looks like the water - there are ponds where there are normally parks!!! Water everywhere.... They said on the news to watch out for snakes, water moccasins, alligators, etc. - they are getting out of their usual lakes and swimming through people's yards, HOUSES, etc. There is a mysterious pond that showed up in Spring Park and I heard bullfrogs there, hehe. They warned people to keep their dogs on leashes - as one newscaster put it, "I hate to say it, folks, but dogs are like chocolate chip cookies to alligators".

What is really, really pissing me off is that "Hurricane Ivan" seems to be making his way slowly up towards us now too. If he continues along his projected course he'd be here by next weekend or early next week, which SUCKS because my sisters, nephew, and brother-in-law are coming down to visit us during that time!!!! I want them to have an enjoyable vacation, not to have to be "hunkered down" and have a 72 hour curfew or something. Amber & Chris want to look at houses, apartments & neighborhoods around here as possible living locations, and they want to go to the beach and stuff - and everthing is such a huge mess - power is out for about 5 million people right now, streets & highways completely barricaded, floods everywhere, etc. The theme parks and airports and stores are all closed. I'm sure it will be mostly better by the time they come down on Thursday though!! The airport and everything will definitely be open by then. But if Hurricane Ivan comes this weekend it will make me very angry and sad. ((Chris/Amber/Kachina/Theo: Don't worry though, we will figure out a way to have fun no matter what!!!!)).

Bah humbug. Okay, I'll be painting shortly - you'll be able to watch me HERE - I might start on some Autumn or Halloween paintings, seeing as it's getting to be that time of year....

I know, this is INSANE! I love rain and all, but really now...

I can't take another weekend locked in my apartment...if we do get Ivan, I think I may hide in Celebration!

I saw Ivan. It's really stupid. I hope a front comes along and sweeps him out to sea. Which is typically what happens in the Cape Verde season (August - Sept when the waves come off the west coast of Africa and begin to develop out there as opposed to closer to the US, the islands off Africa are the Cape Verde hence the name).

Check it out, Ivan may be a major hurricane, but it's an awfully disorganized looking one. Does it even have much of an eye? o_O

Poor you! It must be horrible during a hurricane!! I hope it does get better so that you and your family can have a good time on their trip!
Wow, Halloween paintings, it's getting to be my favourite time of year again - autumn/winter!! Yay! I might have to do a pumpkin themed painting or something this year, this is my first year I've done painting as a hobby, as something I enjoy so this could be my way of celebrating! Hehe!
I think on Halloween this year, I might see if there are any Wiccan/Pagan festivals on, they're so much fun!
Keep safe!

That really sucks, Jasmine. =( When I heard how slowly the hurricane was moving over FL, I was afraid there'd be huge flooding problems. =( *hugs* I just hope the water doesn't continue to creep up from run off even after it's stopped raining. That's what happened after hurricane Floyd in '99 . . . when my house was flooded in NC. I really, really hope it's different in FL. I don't know how the geography of it all work there, but damn, Jamine, that all really suck. =( *hugs* I just hope everything clears up for when your family comes to visit.

*shakes fist at sky*

I hope things clear up around there before your family comes to visit.

Don't worry too much about Ivan. Hurricanes are so unpredictable, by later this week Ivan might be long gone or non-existent. I hope so for Florida's sake. :)

Thank you!!

Lol, oh - it's not that bad - it's nothing compared to the ice storms and crap we'd get back in Missouri! I'd put up with this many times over as opposed to having cold winters!

I feel for ya, hun. My uncle JUST moved down to Florida a little while back. This is the second time he's had to evacuate. Someone asked him what he would do if his house was damaged. He said he'd move the #@!! back to Pennsylvania! heehee Keep your hopes up!

Glad to hear you guys are okay!! We'll have to keep an eye on Carrie, now, too! And Victoria - looks like the weather is going to sweep near them both!
I've been keeping your webcam up - if Jasmine's painting, then she's okay!
Hugs...

Dimensions of Current Painting

Good Afternoon Jasmine

Moments ago I showed your painting cam to the husband and he was most curious as to what the dimensions are of the piece that you are currently working on. He rather likes the composition/theme and further asked what "type" of listing you had planned for this piece on ebay. I thought that I would ask you directly as opposed to repeatedly telling him "sorry, but I don't know what she plans to do." /grin

Re: Dimensions of Current Painting

Oh! She's a 12"x16" piece and I'll be listing her this evening as a regular auction (starting at a penny with no reserve!!!). >^___^< Her name is "Pumpkin Pixie" and she is holding a pumpkin - probably going to carve it up into a Jack O'Lantern.......

Doing good! It has since stopped raining and we even have the windows open now, hehe. It's beautiful outside. We're trying to air the place out - we had some water seep in through the door and the carpet got soggy =P
