Fairy Oracle? [Aug. 26th, 2004|08:19 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Hehe - here's my new painting!

It's kind of a funny painting - it made ME giggle at least, lol. For those of you who don't know, a "Magic 8 Ball" is a little toy that looks like a big pool ball that is supposed to answer questions and predict the future - I had one when I was a little girl, and it always fascinated me, lol (I think novemberhour was with me when I bought mine, actually!!!). Probably the least "mystical" of all of the oracles out there, which is why it struck me as funny. The fairy herself is shown within a circle on a black canvas - much like a response in a Magic 8 Ball....hehe!!!!

You can see her here:

"Fairy Oracle?"

I'm off to make some food now - enjoy!!!

I love those things! Hehe, I imagine her in an 8 ball of some sorts herself. And someone is turning it to see her appear and answer their question, but she has to consult her magic 8 ball, lol!

Hehe, yeah - I was looking at her in that circle of black and that made me think of the magic 8 ball - it was just going to be a regular crystal ball at first, lol.

Oh my goodness, I remember that! I think I remember being irritated that you could only ask yes/no questions-- we had all sorts of open-ended questions, if I recall. And then later my mom worried that I was going to get involved in the occult... because of the 8-ball. If anything were going to turn me to the occult, it would be my natural and ever-healthy interest in paganism. Le sigh.

Of course, they worried about the Care Bears back then too. Dang, it was just so freaky inside the Christian conservative community! My parents are awesome, but there were so many witch-hunts going then. Not that it's that different now. Harry Potter, anyone?

LOL! I remember that so well!!

I was always confused when I was little when your family wasn't allowed to have eat/play/watch/have some of the things that we did. I remember how you couldn't have a Barbie because they were "worldly", hehe! Or like when we'd eat lunch at your house and you guys would have the cut-up apples without the peels on them, and our cut-up apples would have the peels on them, hehe. Although I'm (pretty) sure that wasn't a conservative Christian policy and more of a health-conscious one. I think.

I TOTALLY believed in the "power" of the 8-ball!! It was a mystical orb when I was younger and you had to worry that if you did it too much, you might be taken over by the dark forces...about the same time we were enthralled with & terrified of the ouija board! Bwaaaa--haaa-haaaaa!!!
This painting is cute! I like that SHE looks like she is IN an 8 ball too!

Hehe, I've got a Ouija board right upstairs!!!

Hmmm.... maybe I need to do a Ouija inspired piece.....

I was actually thinking that sometime if Matt could cut me a piece of wood and sand it, I could design some original Ouija boards to paint!

Heh - when we were watching you paint this my mom and I were trying to figure out what she was holding. Mom said it was a ball of yarn (Mom knits) but I went with Magic 8 Ball. Yay, Magic 8 Ball!!

LOL! It's funny, I was first going to just make it a crystal ball, and it would be more serious. Then I thought about making it a skull, and making her pirate-y. But then I was looking at her out of that circle in the blackness and she reminded me OF a magic 8 ball herself, hehe.
