Gee....that only took about 20 hours or so........ [Aug. 25th, 2004|01:03 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
I updated my website!

I added a bunch of prints, updated some other pages, etc. Most importantly I went through and re-optimized all of my thumbnails to be smaller and at a much lower resolution so they load a LOT quicker and so there is more room for them. I ended up taking away the scrolling elements too - they loaded very slowly for dial-up and caused problems for those who don't have javascript enabled, etc. etc. etc. It runs a lot smoother for everybody now. Re-doing all of the images took a loooong time - I've been working steadily on my website since yesterday morning! O__O (Okay, I slept a little, but not much).

You can see it here, of course: http://www.strangeling.com

I still need to update my links page, my FAQ, etc., but I'm just so insanely tired of updating I'll leave that until a little later =P

So now I'm making prints, etc. and trying to catch up on the email that piled up =P I sold some of my canvas prints last night and I need to work on them today too. I'll update here with my webcam link once I get started on an actual painting, lol - off to work!!!

Its looking awesome Jasmine, I like the gallery bar image you added to link to, and I think that’s awesome you put an image of the new book that’s coming out soon. I also thing it looks a bit cleaner with the smaller images. ..I also like the large fairy you used in your gallery page, the one from the book, great idea.. I need to see more picks of matt, apparently he thinks he looks similar to my hubby Tom. Don’t know if you read that post about their similarities.. Nuts I tell you, Nuts! I think its nice to make the page user friendly to everyone, Toms really great with that when helping me with my web page.

Looks fabulous! Loads RIGHT up. Of course, I'm on dsl so that might be why ;) One thing though, not sure if it matters much, but on your about you page. The caption "Posing for referenc photos" you left the 'e' off reference ;)

It looks great! I love seeing your new book on the front page. It still excites me, lol! The smaller thumbnails make everything look neater, I think. I like seeing a lot of them on one page! And I like seeing you ribbon faery on the gallery page.

I know that you always make HUGE post office runs..have you thought ( I am sure you have) Of Setting up an account with them online so that you can print out all your postage..attach it and they will come to your house for FREE and pick any number of packages up? I thought it might save you some time going to the post office!! I shipped a few that way recently and it was REALLY NICE not to have to drag 3 kids to the post office and wait in line.. :o)

Hi Jodi!!! Thank you for the suggestion! I've been thinking about that, actually....

Do you have any idea if they also do the whole insurance and international customs forms from home? That's what's holding me back more than anything else - not a day goes by that I don't have at least a couple of packages going overseas, and I wasn't sure if I could do the customs stuff from home!

I know they do Global Priority POst ..BUt they charge you an Extra $12.50 to do it!!(Yikes)

They dont offer insurance online YET (but they say Soon!)

Do you insure everything?

They give you free Delivery confirmation though.

I read that priority is insured up to $100 anyways!(Included)
....Even if you were able to do a little that way..it might help your load!! I can only imagine the Joy of carrying thatto the post office..(Like the little old lady in the junkyard from the Labyrinth...LoL...I can see you hobbling down the street..LoL)

YOu can read it here:

Bah, I mostly use Airmail instead of Global Priority (that's needlessly expensive, and Airmail gets there almost as quickly!). It's the actual processing of the customs forms that worries me too. Almost all of my larger orders, canvas prints, and originals require insurance too =P I'd end up only being able to do half of it at home, which isn't worthwhile since I'd be having to make a big trip up there anyways. Piff!!! We've got a pretty good system though - Matt drives the car and parks directly next to the back door at the Post Office (his dentist's office is right by it) early in the morning. And then I go up on my bicycle as soon as the Post Office opens (before all of the customers are there, usually) and carry the postal bags in there.

I do hope that they figure out a way to do the customs and the insurance, etc. from home - that would be even better!!!

Hey..That is a REally good system!!!Your MAtt rocks you know(and his Giant Conan Man breasts)LoL!! WE really have some good guys!!

James sells RV parts on his ebay account so we have to have the post office or UPS come pick them up. The last one was a 13 Ft. Awning that weighed in at 120 lbs. Yeah that would have been rather impossible for me to take..LoL...I am just not buff enough!!

Eventually (soon, I hope!) Matt will start working JUST for me. He's already cut down there to part-time. We'd actually be making MORE money if he'd just stay home and make prints and frame for me, dammit! I'm pretty sure that this time next year he'll be my full-time assistant, and then he can just drive and do the Posty runs all the time, hehe.

Holy cow - I'd schedule a pickup for something that big too!!! That's one of the nice things about just selling art - even if I have an order for 200 small prints, it's still just a 12"x4"x9" box! What gets crazy is the mailing tubes - they are so wily and always escape from the posty bags and roll away......

That would be So great if he could!!! I would love to spend more time with James, he is ALWAYS at work...When winter comes and the busy season starts..He works an 80 hour week!!!..IT's insane...

I hope to do what you do someday!! That is why I started on Ebay, So I could do something and make enough money so I could stay home with the kids and not have to shove them off in a daycare somewhere...I think I have made great strides in just the year I have been on Ebay!!...I have great hopes for the future!

And it really helps to have a strong support system at home!

I cant send my art to my family because they "dont approve"...but James always likes it, and always gives me his opinions...and that is all that matters to me, My family can go suck an egg!! LoL

The day I hit powerseller....I will send everyone flowers...LOL

Thank you! I often use myself for a model in my paintings, and it's fun to make little morphs out of it, hehe.
