Meh. [Aug. 24th, 2004|11:33 am]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
I had been wanting to have a booth at the Celebration Arts & Crafts festival in October, so I called the event people and was told that all work for this particular show must be 100% "handmade" (and since I was mostly thinking of selling my prints & merchandise rather than originals, that won't really work). There's not enough time for me to crank out a bunch of originals just for that show either.

Oh well. Besides, Matt & I are going to a wedding out at Clearwater Beach the Friday of that same weekend, which would be cutting it pretty close. I guess I'll just hold out for the Celebration Art festival (which is more appropriate anyways since it's all fine art rather than more crafty) in the spring. I'm also planning to try to do some conventions and fantasy oriented shows and festivals too >^__^<

In other annoying news, my shipment of merchandise (the postcards, lightswitch plates, and shirts) is ALL BACKORDERED so there will be a bit of a delay there, which is really, really annoying. But in a way I guess it's a good thing, since it means all of my stuff is selling well to the retail shops, etc. Still annoying though, I was hoping to have all of that stuff up on my site this week. It's my own fault for procrastinating though - I should have ordered it earlier =P

Oh! Airborne Express just came - I received my advance copy of the upcoming Juxtapoz magazine (my favourite art magazine!!!) - I've got an ad in there - woohoo! It looks great, just like I wanted it to. It will be nice if I have all of that new stuff on my site in time for the magazine release - I'm not sure if I will in time or not =P Funnily enough, on the page after the page my ad is on there is an ad for a store that just started selling a bunch of my stuff though, lol.

CONGRATULATIONS again to my wonderful cousins!!! For those who still don't know, malikasaghir is having a baby!!!

I have so darned much work to do - a couple of book projects, commissions stacking up again, orders, email, website stuff, new paintings to paint, etc. etc. etc. I'm feeling kind of blah though (hence this long rambling post). I'll probably first try to update my website with some of my newer paintings though, so it will be relatively up to date.

HOLY COW - I have wanted THIS PAINTING since I was 12 years old. I've seen it up on eBay a couple of times now, hopefully it won't sell until I have some extra spending money enough to snatch it up, hehe.

Okay, I'm off to do a little updating on my website =P I've rambled enough. I'm doing good though - I didn't let the new stuff pile up too long this time!!! ;0)

I LOVE all of that original TSR artwork!! I got the "Art of Dragonlance" art book on my 12th birthday, and that's a big reason why I'm a fantasy artist today!

NOOOOOO! Credit cards are EVIL! And not in a cool evil way either, lol. I don't use ANY credit cards - I only buy things if I have the actual money right then, hehe. Since 90% of our household income is from my artwork, which of course can fluctuate a lot from month to month, I try to have as few monthly $$$ obligations as possible. I'm not going to tempt fate, hehe.

I love that painting, but there's no WAY I'm going to buy it right now, unfortunately. I can't justify owning a piece of artwork that cost three times as much as my car, lol. Maybe in a couple of years though.......... ;)

It's crazy - every day I've been getting emails from people telling me where they've seen my products at stores!! Some locations I know are carrying some of my products, but it's hard to me to figure out which exact retailers have bought what (since I just get the sales readouts from the wholesalers). It's very exciting!

Bah! No kidding!! I've got a new house too - and we have those "fancy" wide-switches too =P I WISH I had the "regular" kind - I'd like to use some of my own switchplates, or buy some other cool ones. I haven't seen ANY decorative switchplates from anybody yet that accommodates the wide-switches =P

I love those too!!!!

Man, I've been hearing about a Dragonlance movie for thirteen years now =P I'm crossing my fingers!!! I wish the same team who made the Lord of the Rings movies would tackle the Dragonlance series!!!!! Although, I think an anime adaption would be good too......

That one is awesome too - I love Clyde Caldwell!!

You're right though, it's hard to justify spending that kind of money. Especially when we're driving around in a piece of crap twelve year old minivan, lol.

Hey, do you ever go to the Florida Reniassance festival to sell your work? Anyway I could convince you to go to the one in South Florida ^^ Then I could see your lovely work in person!

I always wanted to get a tent there but it costs $700. Maybe when I do more original work other than commissions I would do it, but right now I have very little original fantasy style work.

What kind of arts and crafts festival won't let artists sell prints? That's stupid.

I think it's because it's more "craft" oriented - they gave examples of what you could have and were mentioning home-made jellies and cheesecakes, and wooden items, etc. I think it's the licensed mass-made products that they'd really object to. I think I'd be better off at an actual art festival I suppose (we have one here in the spring!!).

Ooooh!!! I'd LOVE to do some renaissance festivals!!! We've only lived in Florida a year, so I haven't gotten to yet. I did visit the renaissance festival out by Tampa last year - I'd love to do a booth there this year! Where is the South Florida one held? That would be a fun excuse for a vacation!

Oh yes!!! Hehe, they bought up a bunch of my little sketches & small paintings I did in school, lol!!! It's so weird to see it in a gallery - I didn't think about that when I was drawing them, that's for sure. Cool - it looks like they have some of mine & Delphine's merchandise too!
