Meep! [Aug. 15th, 2004|03:02 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
We had to go shopping for some business supplies, groceries, household stuff, etc. It took waaaay longer than usual - EVERYBODY in town (I guess in the hurricane aftermath or whatever) had the same idea. And of course, in a lot of instances there was no power for the stoplights, and often missing stoplights, so it was crazy out there. And then when we got to the stores, they were crowded and RUNNING OUT of stuff! Basic stuff - we went to SuperTarget and they only had one jug of milk left, and it had expired on August 10th O_o

They were out of bread, except for two loaves of pumpernickel, one loaf of some nasty "lowcarb" crap that was $6.99, and one loaf of potato bread (which we bought!). A LOT of people are still without power, and a lot of people probably lost their groceries from lack of refrigeration too, which would explain a lot of it.

It took forever, but now we're finally home! And of course, I'm preparing to paint =)

You can watch me HERE. Tonight I'll try to sort through some emails - it's been pretty crazy around here - I apologize for my delays in email/LJ responses!

I know, that low-carb stuff is nasty. I like plain ol' whole wheat bread. I am glad you made it through the hurricane okay. I have relatives in Virginia Beach (VA) who got the tail end of the storm.

Ugh, no kidding!

That was our first hurricane, and they only allegedly come to our part of the state like that about every 50 years. I won't mind waiting until I'm 70 to see another one....

LOL... No kidding. One hurricane was enough for me. That is good news about that type of hurricane's rarity.

Yeah, around here we mostly got plant damage, so that's not so bad =)

We went driving around the rest of Orlando today though, and some places were hit pretty hard - a lot of commercial buildings and businesses had their signs whisked away, and a lot of traffic signs and lights were simply gone!

sorry about the bread..potato bread isn't that bad though at least.

i really feel badly that people got killed by the storm...sooo glad that you two are ok. sorry i was a little remiss in letting you know that...but i am glad. also your painting looks adorable. it would be really cool if you did a storm fairy with wind blowing through hair and such...you could always sell it and donate proceeds to a local organization that is helping with the relief...

i bet alot of people would bid on peices for something like that.

Thank you, Jillianne!!!! I'm so happy that nothing bad happened to us, and most of the people we know down here. I feel so terribly for the people out on the coasts who got the worst of it =(

does whole foods or even a farmer's market have an alternative source for their produce? maybe tomorrow you can go to a farmer's market near you, fruits and veggies esp. are you without power?

Oh, we've got our power and everything - we have underground utilities here in Celebration, so our phone, cable, electric, etc. stayed on the whole time =) A lot of people aren't so lucky though - there are still many in the surrounding area without power, etc.

Unfortunately neither of our local Farmer's Markets opened this weekend, which was sad because I was really hoping to go. But we've got a fridge stocked up other than that, so all is well. I'm just thankful we didn't really have any problems!

It's just regular bread, but they use a little potato flour in with the wheat flour - it's pretty good, actually!

Low carb bread??? HUH?? I don't get it. How do you make a low carb out of something that is just a carb?? It's like, if you don't want to eat carbs, then maybe steer clear of bread altogether? hee hee!! This low carb craze is, well...crazy! And $6.99 for a loaf of bread...you could go home & make bread for MONTHS for that!! sheesh

using unprocessed flours..bleaching the flour..but low carb bread is really dry usually-not of a good flavor(friend of mine was trying the low carb diet so that is all she had.) to be honest the low carb stuff isn't all that much different then regular-and alot of low carb stuff has more calories and or fat then regular products...people are silly about dieting...

Glad you're ok!

I hope you get some good food soon. Around here if someone just says "storm" people clean out the stores like that. I guess it's good for the stores, but it's really annoying.
