The calm before the storm..... [Aug. 13th, 2004|11:51 am]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Today's the day Hurricane Charley is supposed to come visit....

So far there is no wind, no rain, just nice mild weather, but I have a feeling that's going to change....

He's supposed to hit this late afternoon/evening. Disney World is actually closing in about an hour!! They've only closed once before in the past three decades for a hurricane, so that's kind of a big deal. We'll see!!!!

I went to the Post Office the minute it opened this morning, to make sure I got the day's orders out before it started raining. I tried to go to the bank, but apparently everybody else had the same idea and the line was out the door! O_o I'll just do that on Monday =P

Right now I'm going to go answer a bunch of email & process a bunch of orders in case our power gets knocked out later and I lose contact! If all stays relatively calm, I'll probably do some painting later after I get the computer stuff taken care of. I'm not sure if I'll do my next Zodiac sign (LEO!!!), or maybe little Gothling. Or maybe a BIG painting!!! I've got a giant roll of canvas that is begging to be used!!!

In other news, in order to further balance that whole supply/demand thing, I'm raising my commission prices. I'm just getting too many requests and my "waiting list" is getting so long it's turning people away =( A lot of people commission me to make paintings as birthday presents, anniversary presents, etc. and too often they will contact me when I have too long of a waiting list to even get to them before that date. So the pricelist is changing as of today (I'm getting ready to update my site right now). NOTE: if you have already contacted me and are on my waiting list, your price WILL NOT CHANGE. The new prices only apply to new custom painting orders!! Don't worry!!

Hi Jasmine! I haven't been around for a few days, but wanted to jump on here and tell you to stay safe and my thoughts will be with you during this hurricane.

We were hit hard last year by Isabel and were without power for 11 days. Make sure you have a hand type can opener or cans with pop tops. :) I found out too, that candles and battery operated things don't last too many days. Thankfully, I had some antique oil lamps and they were life savers. If you think there is a chance of you getting hit really hard, you might want to put your kitties in a carrier and keep them with you so they won't freak out. One more thing, if you have a cell phone, a car charger for it is really handy when the power goes out for an extended period.

Good Luck Sweetie!

Thank you Colleeen!!!!!

I just saw the first two or three drops of rain hit my patio - it might be starting....

Oh MAN I hope we don't have any problems... I'm getting nervous now....

We've got the can openers, lots of food, hopefully it won't be an issue....

I'll keep you all updated!! (HUGS)

I heard on the news that they were shutting off power to downtown Tampa this morning, because of the underground wires to prevent massive damage from storm surge. This makes me glad my aunt is HERE instead of home in Tampa right now lol Stay safe!

Wicked Weather Out There!

Seems like Mother Nature has not been too kind to us lately.

Should they rename this hurricane to the Hurricane Clyde? ;) (To go with Hurricane Bonnie)

Stay safe.

WOW! Stay safe!! I hope it just passes over & I hope it loses strength before it gets to you. My mother-in-law in Florida is supposed to go check on my husband's grandfather to make sure he's o.k...he's closer to where the storm is coming I guess.

Re: Stay Safe, Jasmine!!

Hi Mom!!

So far so good - I've seen about three drops of rain, but I hear thunder and the sky is getting darker......

We will just bunker up here in our house (sturdy cinderblock construction!), and we've got lots of candles, hehe. (((HUGS!!!)))

Ok, I know that hurricane's aren't "good" and "fun" things, but they sound a little exciting to me, lol! All that waiting and anticipation. Stay safe and I hope you don't get hit too hard! Just enough to have some wild looking clouds and a little thunder and lightning. Exciting but not dangerous!

Wow, congratulations on having to up your comission prices! lol, I've been saying congratulations to you quite often lately! You are certainly taking your career higher every day!

Though the hurricane (now a catagory 4) is heading directly for Fort Meyers, your area has some severe thunderstorms including tornadoes heading for you. Are you near the theme parks, cuz right now the bands of severe storms are heading towards them. Be careful!!!!!

2:15pm now. Skys are overcast, but not much darker than normal. Not much of a wind either. But I think I live in an area that is not going to get hit.

Good luck! I think you're in an area that will get most of the rain. I live to the south and on the East coast so I won't see much I think.

if there is thunder and lightning, Balto says to tell you to stay away from the computer and video games because lightening can travel through the wires. Hurricanes are interesting but can be dangerous too ! You are not *too* close to the coast, I don't think, stay safe, and weather the storm safely and without too much trouble !

Good for you!

I think it's definitely the right thing to do to raise your prices. You're definitely worth the money! Besides you've got to keep up with inflation and stuff anyway, so you'd have to raise them eventually. Better to do it now so that you can get a fair price and your customers can get things faster.

Good luck in the storms. We're getting the rain here already, but I'm sure it's much worse there.
