Hurricanes are a'coming!! [Aug. 12th, 2004|09:52 am]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
As some of you may know, we've got Bonnie and Charley (two hurricanes) on their way to Florida..... you'd never suspect it though - it's a beautiful sunny day out, no wind, eerily calm....

Being inland, they will probably lose their steam by the time they get to us, but we might get some big storms out of it! We keep having warnings on the news, etc. Luckily here in Celebration all of our cable, telephone, electrical wires, etc. are completely underground, so it's less likely they'll be knocked out in the winds, etc. But if for some reason if you don't see any posts from me for awhile, that would be why! It's supposed to start tomorrow afternoon (hopefully I can get these orders to the post office before then!).

Speaking of orders, I am wonderfully swamped!! I say "wonderfully" because I certainly don't want to sound like I'm complaining (I'm thrilled!), but MAN it's a lot of work! I'll be sorting through all of that stuff this morning, and then I'll start painting! I'm working on a big 16"x20" piece showing a faerie queen, shimmering and sparkling. I think I will surround her with some of her little faerie subjects.... It'll be a big colourful, sparkly piece!

When I get started (probably a couple of hours still, I need to get these prints going) you'll be able to watch me HERE!

But Florida isn't a very geographically wide state..it's possible they won't weaken enough to make much of a difference. Fortunately you won't get any of the high surf and coastal flooding (**weathernerd**). Stay safe, I'm so jealous ;)

It's very true - when I fly down here there is one place where you can see across the whole state from the air, lol!

We really just get the rains and some winds from the hurricanes here (not really the damage) - in the past 30+ years that Disney World has been open for example, they've only closed once in anticipation of a hurricane (and it never came, hehe). It's exciting though!

Ooh, i'd be very nervous about a storm like that coming! Stay safe and take care to avoid the flying cars and trees! *eeps fearfully*

Just a thought but I wonder what crocodiles do when it is like that...have you ever seen one blowing down the street? LOL

Warm wishes.

Steven

That's kewl, a hurricane named after me....lol...My aunt just called from down there she said that they didn't think Bonnie was going to do much, I think they are still calling her a tropical storm aren't they? but she did say Charlie had some high winds, I thought she said up to 85 mph..Stay safe Jasmine, I'm sure even storms inspire your creativeness don't they?

I love thunderstorms!! I never experianced a hurricane I'm to far north for that, they usually dissapate once they get into cooler water. Tornados are much more awsome anyway he he. Better run to the post office then.. Dont ya just love the feeling before the storm? I do *wide grin*

I LOVE STORMS!

I especially love the "before the storm" feeling when everything smells so green and the air is filled with electricity.....

It's very nice outside now, but things are supposed to start happening late this afternoon....

I love storms!! Stay safe though!

All of your wires are underground? That's so neat! So you don't have any stupid poles and wires obstructing your view of things! I hate that! They are so ugly. I took the coolest picture in Maine (I'll post it later) and there are stupid telephone wires in it messing the whole effect up.

It sounds like fun to be swamped with things like that to do!!

Yep! No poles, no wires anywhere - I love it!

Hehe, the only problem is I get used to not having things like that around, so when I go to cities that have above ground wires, telephone poles, etc. they seem like eyesores!

we live just outside of tampa and it is very not cool.. a lot of our area is under a mandatory evacuation.. the entire downtown area is going to have the power turned off tomorrow at noon. billy and i are going to stay with his parents because our area will probably flood. traffic is nasty too.. they are trying to get a lot of people out of the area

Re: Hi again...

Hi Krystal!! Pleased to meet you! =) Welcome to my LiveJournal!

You've made the first step - congratulations on making your first website! That's the most important thing you can do to start increasing your exposure online. It looks like you have definite potential - your "Grey Girl" is especially well done.

You might want to check out Elfwood - http://www.elfwood.com - it's a fantasy/scifi online gallery for all kinds of artists - from kids doodling at school to professional fantasy artists. They let you have a FREE gallery there, and thousands of people visit it every day. I have a gallery there and it is a GREAT source of exposure!! It's also great for critiques, help, suggestions, etc. - it is set up so viewers can comment on your artwork.

After you've been making art for awhile you might later think about submitting to Epilogue - http://www.epilogue.net - it's kind of like Elfwood, but more geared towards "professionals". Both sites are great to look at too - I spend hours sometimes browsing through all of the beautiful art =)
