Good morning!!! [Aug. 2nd, 2004|09:07 am]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Lately I've been getting up at around 7:30 - I really like getting up early, I feel like I get a lot more done in a day.

Right now I'm going through emails, etc. I'm kind of procrastinating (as you can tell, since I'm posting here at LJ, lol).

Yesterday I saw one of the most startling and cool things!! Matt and I were riding our bikes on the trails that go out behind our house. We went a long ways out through the woods and ended up back behind the high school. There is a small lake there, and I saw what I thought had to be a big tree trunk lying on the grass at the side of the lake. That is, until it started to move, lol. It was a big alligator!! Now, I see little baby alligators and adolescent alligators all the time here in town, usually whenever I go to the post office, the bank, etc. But this was NO baby! It was a grownup alligator, which is a completely different story!!! This was the first time I'd ever seen a full-sized "grab-you-and-drag-you-into-the-water-to-eat-you" alligator here in Celebration!!! I jumped so quickly when I saw it move, lol. He/she just slowly moseyed over to the water and got in, not paying attention to us at all. It was really cool, but kind of unsettling - I remember the last time we were at that pond Matt was all crouched down on the side of it poking around and looking in the water, trying to get me to dare him to swim across.... I had no idea what was lurking in there! The animal control are supposed to relocate alligators over 6 feet to rural areas, but since we are surrounded by wetland preserve on all sides, I imagine it's easy for them to slip through.

I'd better get back to the email-answering! I will definitely be painting a little later on - I'll post a link to my webcam when I start =)

YIkes!! How scary!!! I think I would start carrying something tastier than me along!! Maybe Haul a chicken with you!!! Fling it the other way!!..LOL

Maybe you should call Animal control before it eats someone or someone's pet, so they can relocate it!...Another reason why I am terrified of any body of water bigger than a puddle in Florida!! LOL....Yikes! That gave me goosebumps!..LOL

Don't worry, animals are usually put off by eating humans. We are completely upright and thus look a lot bigger than we are, and also we are oddly shaped. The nonexistent transition of our narrow heads to our broad shoulders is too steep to eat easily.

Alligators don't usually eat people. They may attack for one reason or another and chew for a bit, but I don't think they eat whole people. Crocodiles, which can get much larger (some in excess of 20 feet!) would easily eat a person.

Most lakes down here don't have alligators though :-/ We have a small but deep lake in my neighborhood that has never seen an alligator in the 20 years of it's creation.
