Awwww..... [Jul. 16th, 2004|11:58 am]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
It must be baby reptile season here in Florida....

On my walk to the Post Office this morning I counted over one hundred baby lizards! By babies, I mean about 1" long or even less - they could stand on a quarter! I saw over one hundred big lizards too, but that's not unusual. These were just tiny hatchlings - too adorable!

And then I saw a baby alligator who was just the cutest thing!! I wish I could have picked him up and hugged him, but he probably would have bitten my finger off and then Mommy Alligator may have come over, lol.

I FINISHED two commissions yesterday, and have two more to go! I'll probably be working on them all day today, but if I finish them and start on something else I'll update you all with the webcam link!

Off to work!

Hehe, my cats LOVE those lizards - they are indoor kitties, but the lizards climb around on the screens of our windows and my cats just stare at them in awe!!!

I think when Squirt got out (the cat) he'd catch them and pop their tails off LOL They're so cute though :)

LOL!

Their little tails fly off at the drop of a hat! It's a defense mechanism, and they grow back quickly. We had a pet iguana when I was growing up - one time he was startled and flipped his tail off at my dad! It grew back, but it was kind of lumpy and not quite the same colour....

I'm with you on this one Jodi! ;) Well just the huuugeee things that can eat you that I am affraid of! How do you get used to seeing alligators just roaming free? As for crocodiles, those things can re-route their blood supply if they get injured, they're some kind of aliens, I tells ya! ;)

Warm Wishes.

Steven

LOL!

I have to admit, coming from the Midwest it was really kind of unnerving the first couple of times I saw alligators "in the wild" (or by the grocery store, more like it, lol). Locals didn't even give them a second glance.

Aww!!! Maybe so!! ;) I love reptiles and amphibians - when I was a little girl I always did reports and independent studies in school on reptile/amphibian topics. I love having this much "nature" around me!!!

Lol!!! I had no idea there were so many lizards in any one place! I suppose they help keep the bug population down too.

I didn't know either until I came down here - I couldn't believe it! They really do help with the bugs - even the baby lizards - by the sidewalk there was an anthill and one tiny lizard was just picking off the ants one by one as they came out, lol!

When I was a kid spending summers in Texas at my grandma's my aunt(same age as me), my brother and a few of my cousins would catch baby lizards, bring them in the house to play then turn them loose out in the yard when we were done playing.

baby alligator

Yep...having lived in Savannah GA for 4 years, I know (from a friend's unfortunate experience) bothering baby alligators = furious and surprisingly fast momma alligator.
