New Painting! [Apr. 28th, 2004|08:37 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
"Guardians of Treasure Cave"

A hidden cave, somewhere in the Caribbean. Inside is a wild pirate girl, in green striped trousers, pirate blouse and corset, is sitting within atop a mound of pirate's gold! There is a Jolly Roger flag in the depths behind her, and some menacing skeletal-ghosts (probably of the long-dead pirates who first hid the gold in the cave) are hovering near the entrance. Outside of the cave you can see an ominous sky above the blue Caribbean waters....

I'm really pleased with how this one turned out. You can thank Matt - he's always telling me to paint more "Piratey Pieces" since he's a Goblin Pirate after all.....

Enjoy! Since eBay's running a special, I thought I'd go ahead and "feature" this one =) Although I have the sneaking suspicion that they are just running the featured-plus special in response to sellers who don't like the new search setup that focuses on featured auctions..... ;)

I'm off to work on a private commission now, but tomorrow I should be starting on Gemini!!!

Ooh, I won't mess with her! I love the details and how you did a full figure this time :)

Hehe...I'm not too fond of ebay's recent changes...

Thank you, Lindsey!

Oh man - eBay made a bad decision with losing the "Going, Going, Gone" thing. EVERYBODY is upset with it, especially in the art selling crowd. eBay doesn't understand that some items (like ART for one, lol) are COMPLETELY visual by nature, and can therefore be last-minute impulse buys.

Even as an eBay bidder, I don't like them - by the time I wade through all of the FP auctions, the last minute auctions have already ended =P This time though, I think that there are enough people writing letters and complaints that they might revise the new policy - ::crosses fingers::. A lot of sellers really rely on those "last minute" bids!

Jasmine!! i am not understanding the new thing on ebay--what is going on?? So your auctions are set up the same way, right--so what is changed on yours for example and Del's?

Hi Laura!

Oh no, it's not anything different with the format of the auctions, it's just how the browse/search is set up. There used to be an option called "Going, Going, Gone" when bidders browsed the categories, and eBay got rid of it and instead it puts all of the "featured" auctions (which cost $20 extra in listing fees for the sller) up first. So if a person is trying, for example, to find the last minute auctions (the ones that are about to end!) in the Self-Representing Artist's category, or the Paintings category, they would have to search through all of the pages of "featured" auctions first before getting to the normal listings. And by the time a person scrolls through those, the normal listings have already ended.

It doesn't change anything for the bidders who search by seller, or click on direct links, or are looking at newly-listed or currently running auctions, etc. - just those that are about to end. A lot of auctions get bids at the very last minute (which is fun for bidders AND good for sellers), so this new format kind of hinders it!

Yeah, my hits are down by half since they made those changes! My latest auction ends tomorrow night and I've had only 200 hits. I usually have at least 400 at this point! And none of them are from browsing either...I was going to write to ebay but I figured since I never use FP then they won't listen. Maybe I will anyway! I'm crossing my fingers too!

WOW! I just happened to be looking at your painting and my husband walked into the computer room and saw the image too. He thinks it would be a great tattoo piece.

I LOVED the first one! This one is even better if that's possible! I feel like every time I resolve to not buy anymore art for awhile, the 'just one more' thought creeps into my head;)

I wrote eBay about the Featured deal. Sometimes just when you think you might actually have a chance on eBay...I hope others that aren't happy about it take a moment to write them also. I actually liked the way Featured was before the change. They seemed a little more manageable when they were broken up by dates. Now they are just a huge cluster that prevents people from seeing auctions that are ending, and I suspect people that catch onto the fact that they are seeing the same 12 pages of auctions everyday will just start jumping past them:( Can you tell I'm bothered?

The new painting, it's such a fun scene! I love the visage you give pirate girls in your paintings (including "Unwelcome Visitors")--like they're challenging the viewer to pull something. Tough, empowered women; it's great. ;)

Yay for Gemini!!! =)

I agree: Tough woman, great painting

Her expression is so good. I also love how the skeletons look glowy. And the cave is really cool too. Too bad I'm poor....:)
