i just got off the phone with a Canadian distribution company. they are going to be making open edition prints and greeting cards of my work for distribution in Canada (they make the prints, sell them wholesale to over 140 different stores, and then send me the royalties!!!). i've still got to sign the contract, but it is pretty much a done deal. i need to send them a proof for each of my prints (with the colours how i want them) along with the signed contract, and then it begins. i'm thrilled - they are the same company that distributes prints & cards for Amy Brown, Jessica Galbreth, John Philip Wagner, and a few other artists who really like!
it's a good deal for me and for the art company. i retain full copyright of the images - they are simply licensed to re-print my open edition prints (in a variety of sizes and formats) for wholesale distribution in Canada. i may continue to make the same prints and publish the images however i like. the only thing i'm asked to do is to direct any wholesale distribution inquiries for Canada to them. they handle all the business stuff, shipping, and making the prints. all i have to do is paint and collect the checks =)
