We went to the Bay Area Renaissance Festival today (in Tampa) - what fun!!!!! It was in a lot of ways very similar to the one back in KC, I don't think it was quite as large though, and it was in a brand new location this year so it doesn't yet have it's "permanent" buildings (so it was very tent-heavy) - I kept hearing merchants grumbling about that, lol, but it didn't matter to me. If I decide to have a shop there next year maybe they'll have that set up by then! There were several fantasy art booths, which was very cool.|
A lot of the same stores were there - even the same signs on the food booths, lol. It was surreal kind of, because I kept thinking I was back in KC, but I'd see palm trees and Spanish Moss everywhere. Very beautiful location - big old Live Oaks with so much moss and ferns and stuff.
We had some great food (fried veggies of ALL types, pretzels, chocolate-covered-cheesecake-on-a-stick, honey mead, wine, pizza, etc.). We went to tons of merchant/artisan's shops - I saw TONS of stuff I liked - lots of clothes especially. This one seemed to have a lot more clothing than the KC one does. Matt tried on some armor that he wants to get (someday - it's pricey stuff!!!). I didn't buy any though - we might go back another weekend with some spending money.... we'll see how things are going... We watched the blacksmith make some cute little iron dragon heads, and a glass blower making "Witch Balls". We saw silly people having funny plays and stuff, and saw a lot of good birdies at the bird show! There were several very good weapons merchants, and we checked out the swords and other weapons. TONS of nice jewelry too!! Lol - they had Hermit Crab Racing there - where I picked the little hermit crab that WON!!! One of the hermit crabs they had was thirty years old - I was impressed! (He had retired from racing though I guess).
I had a lot of fun - it was nice to have a little date with Matt!!
Now I'm home cooking dinner (I can't believe I'm still hungry, lol) - homemade chili (black beans, cilantro, vegetarian spicy sausage, sweet corn, tomatoes, chiles, etc. etc. etc.). It smells really good, and hopefully will taste even better!!!
I may or may not get any painting in tonight - I have a few other things I need to get done. I'll be up bright and early tomorrow morning though!!! ;)
HUZZAH!! Sounds like a lot of fun! My friend used to work at the Renaissance Festival every summer here in CO. She was one of those obnoxious wenches that heckled people watching the shows! LOL She had a great accent worked out! I'm not really sure what a person from the Ren. period should really sound like, but as long as it sounded "foreign", people were happy;)
Oh YAY! It sounds like you had such a fun time! I'd love to have a store at the Ren fest some year! Maybe I'll have one when I move there :) LOL, silly you, how in the WORLD can you still be hnungry after eating all that yummy food you described? ;) I would have bought TOO much stuff had I been you, lol ;) As it is, I spent way too much money today at Target ;P
That would rock!
Hehe - well - that was all around lunch time, and I did walk all day (but probably burned about 10% of those calories, lol!!!) - I worked up an appetite!
;) I am TOTALLY just messing with you silly ;)
sounds like you had a great time :) did you recognise any of the fantasy artists that had booths there?
, Ed Beard Jr.
, "Razor's Edge"
and I forget who all else was there - I didn't see the artists per se (although only Ruth I think I would recognize on sight!) though, hehe. I think if I had a booth I'd hang out there and draw in front of people or somthing, lol.
Ren Faires are pretty basic..lol And the vendors tour around so its not uncommon. Not that I've ever been beyond one very small and cute faire over in West Michigan (and not our mammoth state faire), but I know they get around :))
What a lovely time though ^^ I wish I'd known about it when I was in Tampa a couple of years back *^^*
That sounds like it was really fun! I've never been to a renaissance fest, there aren't any even remotely close to where I live, lol.
uhh it sounds like you had a bunch of fun!
oooooo sounds like so much fun! I am not real big on the ren faire scene out here in Cali. I was much more involved in SCA but I've heard a lot of good reports about the Ren Faire scene in Texas.
Oh WOW sounds like a blast!! I'm even more geared up now for Scarborough!!! (I'm serious this has to be in EVERY one of my posts!!!) LOL!
I remember one artist that has a booth EVERY year at Scarborough.. her name is Naynay (spell that right) Thomas. Recently I have seen her work in Hottopic and in many other places. It was amazing to watch her work grow! It's very pretty! (I met her sister) ;P
I've always wanted to set up a booth.. and art one ;) I don't think I'm that great yet or have enough finished work to be able to do that.. but I'm starting!
Oh Jasmine, if you got a booth at a Ren fest, those prints and paintings would sell like hot cakes!!!! (Like everywhere else your paintings are ;)
Oh yes - Nene Thomas - I love her work! She's actually my LJ friend ;) nenethomas
Ah! =^_^= Small world huh? She has really superb artwork!
So, Miss Jasmine - when are you going to become a Rennie? Hee he - I can just picture you and Matt all decked out as Rennie-goths, showing your beautiful wares!
Eep! My Renn Faire is in less than 2 weeks! Eek!!
Hehe, we already have our garb ideas formulating for when I start having a booth! ;)
Oooohhhhhhh ... sounds like a subject for a series of paintings.... hee hee - like you need MORE ideas!!! LOL!!
