Argh - my EYES! [Mar. 4th, 2004|12:21 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Damn my eyes! Once a year I get stupid allergies where my eyes just turn red and swollen and hurt, and thist is my "time of the year" I guess =P Awful, awful. Claritin and my eye drops do NOTHING. I can't even touch my eye to put in my contact lenses. And without my contacts I have some glasses which give me headaches (despite being feather-weights or whatever they are called, anything at all is too heavy and will induce migraines) but I am just too darned BLIND to go without anything =P I feel so yucky and frumpy. Looking at the computer too long with these stupid glasses makes me go all cross-eyed, ugh. But I'm not the sort of person who can just zone out in front of the TV when I'm sick, so I'm just going to PAINT instead ;) Please forgive me if I stray away from painting from time to time - I might take a few breaks if my headache/allergies progress =P

Not sure which one I'll work on now! Lots of ideas lined up! Since I've limited my commission intake, lol, I feel a lot more liberated and I'll have a lot more time to come up with new originals and that kind of thing. I feel like I've got more time on my hands now that I'm only going to do a couple of commissions a month (and only pieces that fit into my typical style/genre). I'd like to get a few more smaller pieces up for auction at eBay, and then I'd like to maybe do some extra BIG detailed pieces to put in my eBay store at higher pricetags. I've been reading a book on Hieronymus Bosch and I've been flirting with the idea of doing a "diptych" or "triptych" (two or three paintings sold in a set that go together!). Like a faerie painting spread over three canvases, the figure in the middle with the wings on the side canvases, or a mermaid whose tail covers a couple of canvases, etc. Or maybe something Bosch-like, like a re-telling of the Garden of Earthly Delights, etc. Hmmmm..... Too many ideas....

I NEED to go buy some more brushes - my brushes are shot. I actually did a lot of the details in my last painting with the END of the brush rather than the bristles, lol, since they were so fuzzy.

I entered "Entrance" into the EBSQ World Mythology show - you can see it and the other entries HERE (there are six pages in all to scroll through!). Sorry - only EBSQ members can vote! There are a lot of very cool entries there. I also want to try to do a piece for EBSQ's "Aesop's Fables" show - I still haven't decided on "The Lion and the Mouse" or "The Hen and the Golden Eggs". Hmmm.... Well, at least I have until the end of the month!

Oh yes - congratulations to my brother-in-law Chris! Your auction is kicking some arse! With 10 hours left -woohoo!!!

Okay, I'm going to go paint very cautiously, hehe - you can peek in at me HERE - I'll probably be working on and off throughout the day =)

BOY do I know how you are feeling right now. I sot here at this screen with my glasses on to, and wearing them too long makes my head POUND but I can't wear my contacts since my eyes are so itchy from the coming of Spring...

And that idea of a three paneled painting sounds SO bad ass! I can't wait to see what you'd come up with!

OK, time to do web site stuff :P Then paint hopefully ;)

I send lots of healing thoughts your way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love "Entrance", I have a thing for limited colour pallettes even if I can't stick to them very well myself LOL I entered the show, but I've been having way more fun seeing all of the other entries :D

Hope you feel better, Jasmine. I can't imagine allergies being very fun -_-

hey jas,
how much use do you think you get out of a brush?
i seem to be overly harsh on my brushes, and i buy expensive ones to boot (falling off bristles, and frayed ends really kill my detail work), so it feels like i often go thru a brush every...hmm i dunno one every 3 weeks (but i dont paint that much)where i have about 4-5 on hand, so i cycle thru em.
anyways i just hate little expensive things like brushes, paint, green stuff, models, etc.

Hi Chris!!!!

I always use synthetic brushes, they seem to last a LOT longer, and hold their shape better. I'd say I go through about 20 brushes a month, hehe. I use about 10 different sizes though (big to small) for different things, so that's really probably just two brushes of each size.

Yeah, I hate how the little things can add up! Especially the Post Office - sometimes I spend $500-$1000 a month there ((shudder)).

i hate allergies..i never had a severe allergy attack until i went to the midwest. the clariton kind of eased the pain last year but didn't really suffice-i get to go to the doctor this year and get the hard core stuff like afrin and such this year but that stuff always gives me a weird headache. and if i cannot be functioning-i will not be flying...argh...oh well, maybe they will let me out. yeah right. sorry you are feeling so yuckies though i just read your current post...sending hugs and comfort your way.
