Fairy Dwellings.... [Feb. 10th, 2004|07:19 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Oh yes!!! I forgot to say! The other piece I'll be working on will be a "Fairy Dwelling" painting. While I was peering into holes and hollow trees and stuff in the Everglades, my dad suggested I should do a series showing "Fairy Dwellings" (little places where faeries might live!). I thought that sounded like a cool idea =)

Re:

How very cool!!! I am forever seeing little hideaways and holes in rocks, trees, rotting logs, etc. that would make perfect Fairy Dwellings! I'm also thinking of incorporating human debris into them, like pieces of ribbons, paper cups, popsicle sticks, etc. Just like how birds will put things like that into their nests, I think that faeries probably would too!

Oooh!! Faerie dwellings!!!!

When I was a kid I used to hang out in the woods next to my house all the time and make these little places in between the roots of the trees with little twig roofs and make them all soft with moss and put bits of pretty quartz I would find... kinda weird - until you see who I'm hangin' out with these days, eh? Re: Oooh!! Faerie dwellings!!!!

Oh!!! I completely understand!!! I do the same thing. I think little faery-folk used to live in my little Toad House too - just look at my most recent post!

Hey Jasmine, I wanted to ask you, can you do acrylics on paper, or are you limited to wood and canvas? I wanted to start trying some acrylics but I know canvas is so expensive. It would be so much easier if I could use a special kind of paper like watercolor paper.

Re:

Hello!!!

Oh yes - you can definitely use them on thick paper (like watercolour paper) as well. You just have to be careful not to put it on too thick, or let the paper get too wet or curl up!

I buy my canvas in sheets (they come in a big pad, almost like a notebook, but it's real unstretched artists' canvas) here:

http://www.dickblick.com/zz089/08/products.asp?param=0&ig_id=579

it's very cheap! Only $5.39 for 10 sheets for the 9"x12" size, which is .53 cents a sheet. Can't beat that!

Re:

Mwah-haha!

My computer is very close to my painting table - my webcam's right by it! When I wait for one layer of paint to dry, sometimes I wander over and hang out on LiveJournal =)
