Good afternoon! [Feb. 3rd, 2004|11:23 am]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Good afternoon!

Exciting day today - my dad & stepmom are coming down! My dad called a few hours ago from his cell phone (they were in Georgia), and said that they'd be here maybe around 3pm or so. Hurrah! They are going to go off probably to one of the parks tomorrow, and then Thursday night I'm leaving with them to go down to the Keys. I have a TON of stuff I need to get done before I leave - I can't believe how much preparation I have to do just to take a three-day weekend. I always try to tie up all loose ends before I ever leave, but even still I'll probably arrive home to a bunch of angry "Why haven't you emailed me back? It's been six hours!" type emails from impatient fans/customers, lol. ;P

Now though, I'm going to try to get some painting done, you can watch me here!

Oooh! Purple hair! It's looking great so far :)
Wow, people get mad if you haven't emailed them back within a few hours?! I hope you're exaggerating, lol!

Re:

Hehe, that's kind of an exaggeration ;) I do have some people who have gotten angry when I haven't gotten back to them on the same day, which I think is kind of nuts! That's the type I worry about, when I'm out of town for a couple of days. I don't want there to be misunderstandings or anything like that going on when I'm not here to clear it up!

I should really invest in some sort of PDA/cellphone/laptop/whatever that would give me some email access on the road. I'd probably do a LOT more traveling (especially down around the islands) if I didn't have to feel nervous that I was missing out on my business-y stuff so much!!!

Re:

Lol - I don't think I could EVER describe you as "boring", hehe!!! I don't think I'd call you impatient either - I'd say you're just "excited" and there's nothing wrong with that!!! =) You are too hard on yourself, Laura!!!!

Does your email have a automated response feature? If so you might want to set that if you are going to be away for any length of time. That might help with those type of emails.

**hugs**

Yes if you have an automated response it sends them back an email telling them that you are out of the office (so to speak) for a few days...blah, blah, blah.....might be a good thing to switch on if you can!

Silly fretting

Wow, people get upset over the silliest things. Don't let it get to ya, emails are not life or death. You are so great with communication. You deserve a break, people will just havve to wait. You are so popular.......hehehe! Don't you know those that get angry think they are #1. I know you are wicked busy, but any suggestions on how to frame Sage's V-Day print. If I can ever post pictures, I'll have to show you hhow I framed my Ryden. I love it, but it is always such a tough choice. It is always hard to tell how it will look, I've failed before.....or at least just thought it could've looked better. Have a great time!!!!!!!

Re: Silly fretting

Hehe, for myself (since we don't have our frameshop set up yet) I just buy the pre-matted & glassed frames from Michael's or Target, which are really cheap, lol. I'd say definitely frame behind glass, probably mat to 8"x10" with an off-white mat or maybe pick one of the red/pink tones to complement the print!

So what do your folks and sisters do to allow them to spend as much time vacationing around as you do? =) It's great to be able to see eachother often... I'm always disapointed by the fact that I have a completely free schedule (as long as I fit in painting house SOMEwhere, but it could be night, morning, afternoon... etc) and everyone else I know and want to spend time with (like my family!) is tied down to work schedules and can never go anywhere with me =(

Re:

We're all pretty flexible in my family (we're the type of people who make vacations and spending time together BIG priorities, thank goodness). I of course am self-employed. My dad is a painter (the house-painting kind, although he is a talented artist as well, hehe) and he buys houses that have fallen onto hard times and fixes them up all fancy (he knows everything from painting to construction to plumbing to even electrical, so he does it all himself!) and sells them, so he's kinda like me as far as schedules go. His wife (my step-mother Robin) is a registered nurse who has TONS of vacation time, all the time, and only works 3-day weeks when she IS working. My sister Kachina is a writer (young adult fiction mostly) and stays at home with her new little baby Theodore, so she's completely flexible as well. My other sister Amber works at a sleep lab (I think she's a polysomnographic technician? Some impressive title like that, lol) and has a rather flexible schedule herself (she works usually a few nights a week). My mom is an accountant for the University of Kansas Medical Center, and since it's a state job she gets CRAZY amounts of vacation time, flex time, holiday time, etc. So we're all pretty laid back as far as "work" stuff goes, which I think is pretty darned cool =)

Re:

That is awesome! Yes I think I remember you telling me about your dad when I was talking about my own interest in real estate investing (did I get a chanse to post that I'm now a property manager for a rooming house my friend owns? its lots of fun =) )

Its great that you guys get to spend so much time together... my family is only 2 miles away but my mom is so importaint at her job she can never take a vacation =( I've been wanting to take her on a cruise or something like that, but if she could just get a single week off it would be a miracle... so definately enjoy that time you get to spend with your folks since a lot of us are wishing we could do it too =)

Thank you for noticing!!! I've been working to put extra, almost un-natural shines to my hair painting lately, and using brighter shades as well =)
