Strangeling: The Early Years!!!!!! [Jan. 27th, 2004|05:16 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
[mood |nostalgicnostalgic]

Ah, after a long day of scanning......

I present to you....

"Jasmine Becket-Griffith: 1993-1997 Retrospective"

Although, technically I was of course just "Jasmine Griffith" back then.

Five long internet webpages, lots of pictures, just let them load ;)

It was really pretty cool looking at all of my old drawings. The vast majority of them are just black&white since nearly all were drawn while I was at school (English class, physics, math, history, whenever I was supposed to be taking notes, lol) and I just had pens and pencils handy.

WARNING: Lots of nudity, skulls and death, etc. Not for viewers under 18. Of course, I was well before 18 when I actually DREW these, but that's beside the point ;)

Enjoy! I'm going to do Tae Bo, eat dinner, and probably do some painting after that!!!

I have to say, artist's old art ALWAYS show the very intelligence on an artist, I can actually see that you have a genius mind ! GOD ! they look soooo different than you fairies, I'd love to see you making more black and white drawing, with all the experience you now have, that's would be stunning !! Your old are fascinating me !! ( Okay, I love skulls hehe .. ^_- and kinda love Giger a LOT too ! ^_- ) your black and white pic makes me remember some D&D art illustrations, I mean, they would have been great enough to be on those books at your very young age! Good god, thanks for sharing all this with us !!!! ( woohooo ! strange to see some sexay art from you LOLLL, I can imagine the big bomb it would create if you started to paint those again on your new paintings on ebay LOLLLLLLLL )

Wow! That was fun! It was great to see your old work done back in high school! It's very different from what you do now! I really liked the gate ~ "Draw something you see on the way home from school"! Thanks for taking the time to scan and post all these! :)

Re:

I did indeed! Hehe, I went to public schools, lol. Before they started putting in metal detectors ;)

Sometimes I wore two bootknives AND a big ass hunting knife at my waist. I used to cut up apples with them, sit in the corner and glare at people - I was kind of a big nerd, lol.

Wow, I loved looking at your earlier work!!! I hated high school too, so I can totally relate to your experience there. At least you made great use of your time in class - creating all those amazing drawings and keeping your talent alive!

I also drew all the time in school ... LOL. Love your pen and ink work, and it got me thinking that one day, when things settle down a bit, it would be cool for you to take up fine art printmaking, the kind with the woodcuts and pulling prints and stuff ... edition stuff ... how cool would that be? Excellent opportunity to bring in the motifs you have been exploring and the end product looks so antique in a way ... anyway, that was what came to mind. Cool :-)

Re:

Ahh!!! I'd love to work with woodcuts some day! I used to be obsessed with old German woodcut illustrations, lol.

I really should try that when I get a bigger studio!!!

Wow, you were awesome then too! Your old work is sooooooooooo different from what you sell on ebay. Your b/w pen work is incredibly detailed and creative!

Hehe, I did the same thing in highschool, I just filled up small sketchbooks with pen drawings. You've inspired me to share my highschool art too, maybe I will post some later tonight, lol! I wasn't nearly as good though, I didn't take art seriously until my senior year, hehe.

I think you should definitely redo some of these in full-color acrylic!

those were pretty cool, i think i was a litte taken aback by the giger inspired drawings. i like the other characters too like little dragons and such(the one you drew for matt with you two as fairies has an adorable little dragon in there.) Teenagers are angery alot ... it seems funny to me(not that i was exempt or anything). coolness, you should have fun doing what you like...

Thanks for sharing with us your early talented works --that was wonderful fun to see! (Makes me kinda wish I'd kept my own early art and high school sketches, sniff....!)
