Paintings and Pies [Oct. 22nd, 2003|09:55 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
I finished the painting I was working on earlier - I love how it turned out! It's very autumn-y, with autumn leaves in the faerie's hair. Kind of a self-portrait, in a slightly more realistic style. I'll scan her in tomorrow =)

Matt and I just came back from a wonderful walk looking at all of the Halloween decorations - people around here are REALLY into decorating festively. We stopped by the Market Street Cafe and each had a slice of pie (banana cream for Matt, coconut cream for me). Now we're back home - I'm probably through painting for the night, I might settle down and do some reading. Right now I'm reading "The Firebrand" by Marion Zimmer Bradley. It's a fictionalized version of the Trojan War - very interesting. I like historical fiction a lot - if anybody ever has any good book suggestions, feel free to share them with me!

Tomorrow afternoon we are going to go to Home Depot to pick out some paint to do our bedroom. We'll need to get some rollers and masking tape and stuff too. I'm going to go with a darker tan colour for the bedroom. I've been putting off buying dressers and an armoire and stuff until we paint first, and I'm tired of living out of boxes so we're going to bite the bullet and buy some paint.

OK - enough rambling - g'night =)

I can't wait to see your new piece! My husband likes history books too, fiction and non-fiction, and he owns a bookstore, so I'll ask him if he has any recommendations for you. Have fun painting your bedroom!

Your little village sounds cool. Our trip to Disneyland this summer has not entirely quenched my thirst for the place. There is a certain innocence and magic that I feel when I am there. Despite the efforts of Mr. Eisner. I always feel that magic from your posts about Celebration.

As for recommendations, the Alienist is a good book of historical fiction. It is about the first known serial killer and the new use of profiling and psycological analysis to catch him. Plus it has T. Roosevelt as the Police Chief. Yay!!

The magical & innocent feel of Disneyland is definitely present here in town =) That's the only way one could really know that Celebration is a Disney construction (you don't see any cartoon characters or anything like that, lol). That and it's very clean, and at the bottom of most of the literature, ads, and home floorplans end with the little "©Disney", hehe.

Ooooh! I love The Alienist!!! Excellent book! We actually read it in my American History course at UMKC.

Speaking of furniture, weren't you going to post pictures of your sleigh bed ages ago? ;) I think more than a few of us were dying to see this fantasy bed!

I'd be surprised if you hadn't already read it, but "Memoirs of Cleopatra" by Margaret George is excellent. She also wrote one on Henry the VIII that I want to read. I really never get tired of Cleo or Henry;) A silly thing...One of my best friends watches the 1963 "Cleopatra" movie with Liz Taylor and Rex Harrison every Thanksgiving!! Some of the old movies are still the best!

Have a good evening Jasmine! Sleep well! I command it!

Ya! Tan is great! I love neutral colors like that. My computer room is tan. Well it will soon be a baby room so I'll be repainting it so pretty pastel color :) My foyer and hall way are also shades of tan. I'll post some pictures of my house on here one of these days!

Oh my - I just saw a TV show that talked about that today, I think it was on the Discovery Channel, called "Curse of the Rat". I wish that the 14th Century folks had had the insight to do the same! Thank you so much for the suggestion - I'll put it on my list!!!
