Good afternoon........ [Aug. 16th, 2003|12:23 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
I finished my "Tiki Sunset" last night - I love how it turned out!

I've begun on a new piece featuring a Maneki Neko (good luck Japanese Kitty god - usually with a raised paw) in the snow. I just started painting a snowy scene and I thought that there should be some jovial magic beast bringing the snow, so why not a Maneki Neko? He has a little nymph friend too. I'll probably be finished in not too long on this one - I might put up both pieces on eBay tonight for 10-day auctions (so they'll have enough time for eBay to get back to normal after the virus and blackout problems).

I'm hungry! I've been making these awesome sandwiches out of "Veat" brand vegetarian chicken breasts. They are one of the best vegetarian meat substitutes out there - OMG they are good. I pan fry them in olive oil and herbs, with a spicy marinade, and I make sandwiches on big kaiser rolls with provolone cheese, black olives, avacadoes, tomatoes, and ranch dressing. They are so freaking good, I've made them for us three times in the last week, lol. I'm out of them now though, I'll have to find something else =P

After lunch I'll resume working on my Maneki Neko of the Snow painting, I'll post a link to my webcam then =)

LOL The waving cat? They're in every store window in the Asian shops and malls I've seen when I visit Toronto. It's almost eerie. The thing now is the mechanical cat, with the paw waving..up and down up and down all day long ^^

Hehe - that's him!!! I was always fascinated with them when I was a little girl when I'd go to Chinatown in San Francisco. Every shop had them to invite customers in, hehe. I love them!!!!

AH! So that is what I saw when I peeked at your cam in the wee early hours of the morn! SO cute! I don't think I've ever seen you do something like this before Jasmine! I have to say I am VERY EXCITED!!!!! =) =) =)

Hey, with all of these winter paintings you'd think you were getting tired of Florida's heat ;)

Lol, Florida summers are NOTHING compared to the ones back in KC! It's really quite pleasant here. Not NEARLY as hot and humid. I don't like being in snow, but I do think it is pretty!

Snow is GORGEOUS! WAY too cold for me though. I HATE cold weather. But I also hate really hot weather. Most people tell me that Florida would be a perfect place for me. Especially since I tend to hibernate inside during the day as to avoid the sun, lol.

I probably should move to a warmer climate myself, just to see if I feel any better with more sunlight throughout the year LOL I doubt the humidity would kill me, since Michigan is very similar to Florida, just..not tropical. It's the northern version, complete with humidity, lots of water and afternoon thunderstorms in the summer. Florida even gets all our old people in the winter...^_~

I'm in total agreement with you. I think living in a "steadier" environment would do a lot of good for your state of mind. I have a lot of friends who moved from D.C. to Florida and they RAVE about how good it feels to walk around in shortis in the middle of January! I would LOVE to be able to do that!!!

Not to mention the party scene is way rockin, lol ;)

No kidding! Before I moved here I vacationed here in the winters. It's great to be able to go camping in February, and to go to the beach in December. Not to mention it's hilarious seeing palm trees with xmas lights on them, lol.

I went camping in the Everglades last year with a whole group of people in January. It was HEAVENLY! I'm seriously thinking about moving to Orlando just to reclaim my sanity, lol. I'm not down with the whole four seasons thing =\ PLUS, it rains a LOT in Florida, and I absolutely LOVE the rain!

But I hate the sun. So that may be a problem... Not to mention my skin is UBER sensitive, and I burn just by sitting near a window, lol. If I'm in a car in the middle of the day I can actually get sunburned just by being outside... It kind of sucks... Although I do like my ghostly pale complexion =)

Hehe, I'm very photosensitive myself. I've had no problems here though. For some reason, we're known as the "Sunshine State" and I'm not sure why - we get lots of rain and clouds, usually a thunderstorm ever single afternoon! It's no more sunny than anwhere else I've been. Maybe people just have the notion that it is sunny here because it is tropical - I'm not sure...

Well that sounds like a heavenly place to live! I may have to seriously consider moving there, with or without the job I wanted. ALL of my old friends moved to Orlando and Kissimee (sp?) and places like that. They are having a BLAST down there! I'm supposed to visit them sometime after my wedding. Maybe Zach and I will scout out some places to live while we are there. We most likely will be in Disney World for our honeymoon, since Zach has NEVER been there... Can you believe that?

I know - I kept getting dire warnings from people about the humidity here, and then after I moved here I realized it was nowhere near as bad as it was back in Missouri! Certainly tolerable. I live right next to a swamp and a lake and my hair never even frizzes up.

Aah!! I bought a Maneki Neko lucky money cat from Alohashark! It's precious, I absolutely adore him - he's hanging in my purple kitchen! (purple? yea, purple.) LOL

Can't wait to see yours! They're adorable little dudes.

Hey, I was able to find some kickass broccoli sprouts (with a little bit o' clover sproutage mixed in) the other day, and mixed them fresh in with some pasta and mixed veggies - and mmmmmmm it was nummy! Your sandwich sounds great - and I'm starving!

"Veat" hmm.. you're making me want to try some :)
I'll look it up next time we go to the veggie store.

Oh and your new painting sounds adorable! Your snowy scenes always come out great.

I LOVE maneki neko and have been collecting them for a few years :-)

this is one of a series of maneki neko i did this winter. ( i did a whole bunch of gigantic canvases 28" x 22" all with maneki neko from my collection.

black_moon used to be a great place to get maneki neko ( the figures themselves ) i LOVE THEM. I have one near the computer, one out on the beautiful screen porch where I paint acrylics, one large gold one in the great room, the list goes on.

You cannot get enuf maneki neko! Can't wait to see your painting, should be cool :-)

I got a peek at the Maneki last night it's really cool and different :)

I like it when you vegetarians mention brands and talk about your food. So I can try them out sometimes (who knows maybe even convert!). I wish I could eat healthier but Scott is so not THERE and it's difficult to prepare two entirely different meals :\
