Ok, so hours later, Windows XP is still installing update after update. Isn't it appropriate how Windows decided to name their latest and most frustrating operating system with the emoticon for having ones eyes closed and tongue sticking out in disgust? XP|
Of course, backing up files and updating their innumerable security holes requires that I have no other programs running, thus my webcam is currently down. I'm not sure when it will be back up - at the rate this is going, probably sometime later tonight, bleah. I'm typing this on Matt's computer, lol. In the meantime though, I've been painting my Poison Fairy #11 - Castor Bean, which is coming along nicely!!!
i am apparently one of the few nerds who has the securty patch downloaded weeks ago. BTW you can very easily get this while on dial-up as well, not just high speed. If you dont know what i am talking about read here. score one for anal retentive nerds!!

Re: the nerd that i am...
Finally I have all of my updates downloaded - it took for freaking ever! I've already got a firewall and McAfee on my computer, and then with the new security updates I should be set. I did make a bunch of emergency backup disks just in case though!!!
On the plus side, XP is a ton more stable, you'll like the lack of crashes once you finally instal it ;)
I've had XP on my computer since I bought it (a couple of years now), and you're right - it doesn't crash near as often!!! I can't actually remember a time that it did crash (other than as a result of something faulty on my behalf). The only problem I have is with its security issues. Not necessarily the security holes, which of course is standard with Microsoft products, but with the frivolous buil-in options, like the firewall I can't alter, and that sort of thing. That's what is keeping me from having good hosting for my webcam (like streaming) =P The only other complaint I have is its imcompatbility with EverQuest, but that's just because EverQuest was made before XP was out and it doesn't quite fit properly, but that's hardly XPs fault, hehe.
Really, it messes with your webcam? A wierd thing happens to me when I check out your webcam, after I try to close the explorer window, it ALWAYS crashes and makes me re-do my active desktop. I just bear with it, but maybe you've heard of that happening bofore.
It's the built-in firewall that won't let me open a pathway big enough to use most of the webcam hosting out there. I've tried several hosting places, and none of them work well with XP. I have to use a .jpg push system (like yahoo) that sends (very small) .jpgs every couple of seconds or so rather than streaming large pictures. The XP system thinks that if that much info is going in/out of my computer (in a streaming situation) constantly that it must be a security problem of some sort. =P I've tried all of the typical "fixes" like acknowledging a couple of different ports for it to upload through, but for some reason it won't work when I have more than one of our computers networked together. Blah.
Wow Jasmine you're pretty technical - more than I am! I guess I've relaxed a bit more since i married Scott lol! He prefers Norton Antivirus, I forgot why.
