Computers, etc. [Aug. 13th, 2003|12:33 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Well, since so many people have been having problems with that virus, I thought I'd hit up Microsoft for the computer latest security updates. I apparently had 31 Critical Updates, lol. Maybe I should have done this more often...

In other news, last night we went ahead and got Matt a new video card as well (monkey-see-monkey-do). He was having problems (since he has an old computer {we've been adding more memory and stuff trying to bring it up to speed}was running below minimum graphics accelerator specs) with the graphics display in Dark Age of Camelot (going very slow, choppy, etc.) so we went ahead and upgraded to a 64mb one (from a 16mb). We didn't bother getting a 128mb for him since pretty soon I'll have a new computer and Matt can have my current computer (which is all souped up nicely now). It works great! Now we both have our systems optimized for playing DAoC and we had a great time playing late last night. We haven't even turned on the TV for the past couple of days - I've either been working or playing DAoC. I love that game - I had forgotten how much I liked it, and in a lot of ways I prefer it to EverQuest - it's a lot less stressful or something. I've been playing an Avalonian Wizardress on the Nimue server, and Matt's been playing with me as a Briton Paladin - we complement each other nicely.

I've got a few more things I need to update my security system now, and after that maybe some lunch, and then I'll be painting! For the next many, many days, lol. I won't be at my desk for a little while yet, but here is my webcam =)

GRRRRRRRRRRR! Don't even get me started on this virus! You did the right thing by downloading all of the updates. We had to download about 30 ourselves, lol. But we of course got the virus =P Zach backed up EVERY single one of our files onto a cd last night. We now have like 20 cds FILLED with files and programs, lol. It is a relief to know that if this happens again (and this time our computer crashes) we won't lose anything...=\

This virus was so bad that they closed all 24 DMV's in the state of Maryland yesterday. CLOSED DMV!!! That has like, NEVER happened. I think even on 9-11 the DMV was open =P

I have heard a TON of good things about that game. I really wish I had the time to play games again. I used to play ALL of the TIME!!! =(

do you just go to microsoft.com and download thos files!
Do they have a special name or they are just called security updates?

I think you can do it that way - yep! I'm doing mine in Windows XP, where you just click on the "Start" menu, and go to "Windows Update" and it will do it automatically.

We were the same. We have our own network at home so we were safe from the attack (firewall)but I went to update my two computers & I had the same amount of updates *gulp* I get out of work early today.....so when I get home I think that's what I am going to do!! Poor Clyde & Dave (they have been neglected!)
