Jasmine Becket-Griffith
I've got two new paintings up on eBay:

"Little Pele"

and

"Alligator Fae"

I've got to do some sketches for a commission now, so you may or may not see me painting any more this evening =) Eek, I've got a million things to do it seems....

"Alligator Fae" is awesome! I love alligators and crocodiles - they are such beautiful creatures (as are all animals, especially all reptiles and amphibians!). Dave likes the idea of adding an alligator in with a faery. Compliments from him are huge because he has always had a good eye for art for some reason. Something to do with being a tattoo artist for a while???

I am going to start incorporating more plants and animals in with my faeries. So far I've only drawn (painted) a hummingbird with a faery. Other than that, I have sketched a turtle (I LOVE LOVE LOVE turtles - they are my favorite!) with a faery.

The Tiki piece is neat. Aren't those things called Easter Island Heads or something? The only way I know is because Squidward lives in one on "Spongebob Squarepants"! LOL :P Anyway, I want to start trying to draw or paint glowing thingies, too. It looks fun! The more I look at your paintings and you painting on the webcam, the more enticed I am to try to paint with acrylics. One day I will actually do it!!

Anyway, since I've been viewing your work, your style has evolved by far and your shading and highlighting has gotten much more smooth and consistent (not that it wasn't before, mind you). Great work!

Technically, the "tiki" is a modern interpretation of the head portion of a moai from Easter Island/Rapa Nui but since Pele "got around" before she settled in Hawai`i, it fits. :) I think it's a cool painting and have a bid in but I'm afraid that I will be outbid. :(

I love Little Pele! So those were "glowing things" I seen you painting! That is so cool how, with just paint, those little fire balls glow so much! I am amazed! :)

Thanks! She's one of my favourites already. I've always wanted to do some Polynesian themed work, but I was afraid that it might deviate too far away from my regular genres. I think I've found a happy medium with her though - I might do some more even... I'd like to do more pieces with dramatic and unusual lighting. The lighting I usually use in my work is too vague sometimes. I think I'll get out a spotlight and then make Matt snap some photos of me while I move it around so I can get a better idea of shadows and that sort of thing. Hehe, I'm rambling now.... I'm going to go catch up on your murder mystery!

Thats a great idea... the photos and spotlights. Lighting is so underestimated in artwork I think, but when a piece captures great lighting everyone goes "ooooh" ... you might feel a little odd deviating from your typical subjects, but its great for the fans - keeps them on their toes =) As long as its not something out of left field all the time, it just adds spice. I love seeing your ideas - stay true to them =)

I'm so happy people like her!!! I always get so nervous when I try something new, I practically hold my breath until I get at least one penny bid or one positive comment in my journal, lol. I love everything "Tiki" - I'd like to maybe do some similarly themed pieces soon....

Wow, already up to 200? I see I'm not the only one that likes her. She's my personal favorite out of the two. She's incredibly cute!

Yey your Pele painting is doing real good. You know you shouldn't worry about trying new things since everytime I have seen new things from you they always seem to do well on Ebay :).
