Cirque du Noir... [Jul. 22nd, 2003|11:07 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
I've gotten a couple of emails about the piece I'm currently working on here so I thought I'd re-post my reply to lilackat. I'm glad everybody is interested already - before I'm even through, hehe!

Right now I'm working on my piece for the upcoming EBSQ show - "Cirque" (a gothic themed circus show). It's the first in a series I'm calling "Cirque du Noir" which is based on old posters for sideshow acts (like this one: http://www.sideshow-art.com/2headed.html ). The one I'm working on now features a "Two-Headed Girl" which is really of course a set of conjoined twins. I'm kinda going for the idea that the advertisements for the sideshows portrayed a glamorous fantastical sort of idealized version of the rather sad reality and exploitation. We'll see =)

Hi Jasmine, what a wonderful subject matter. I look forward to seing what you do with this one.
I've been thinking that I'd like to enter one of the EBSQ show's and this one particularly sounds right up my street. Could you provide the link for the show's details etc-I'm really struggling with finding my way on EBSQ:)
ps: did my art get to you yet?

Hi David!!!! I don't think the show details are up yet for "Cirque" - I heard about it from wickedgillie in the last EBSQ+ newsletter (I forget if it is a "plus" show or a regular show!).

Haven't received your painting yet - it will probably be here soon - I can't wait!

Hmmm-that is odd, because I believe I sent it well over a week ago,and post is generally surprisingly good.
I expect it'll get there over the next few days, but if it goes another week without arriving please do let me know.

That sounds like it is going to be awesome. I love Cirque de Soleil the best out of all the others. I love seeing the things people can do and of course no harm comes to any animals ;). I can't wait to see your paintings :).

That sounds cool! I did a comic book about ten years ago sort of based on the old Tod Browning movie, "Freaks". Sheesh, I was big into the sideshow stuff! I have a book of those old sideshow banners somewhere around here....
