Some new little paintings.... [Jul. 18th, 2003|11:01 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
I posted some of the paintings I've been working on in short spurts while my mom is visiting with us =)

Here they are:

"Violet Eyes"

"Her Eyes Were Emerald..."

"Aquamarine Mermaid"

I really like the "greyscale with a hint of colour" style I've been working with - it kinda reminds me of "colourized" B&W photos. I got partway through my mountain of email tonight while Matt & Mom were sleeping (and still are) but I think I'll have to get to the rest of it tomorrow. Until then!

PRETTY! That is exactly what I think of when I see your black and white with a hint of color. It makes me think of this one photograpf by Hansel Adams I think? That is black and white ith a single red rose. Or that scene in that movie which I can't remember the name of to save my life.

Anyhoo, I LOVE "Her Eyes Were Emerald". I'm amazed you had time to do all of those! Kudos Jasmine!!! =) =) =)

Awesome work Jasmine-I have to say that "Her eyes were Emerald" is a wonderful mood piece, the wash you've used on the sky too, certainly reminds me some drab day in Old Blighty. Can I ask what the significance of the trident like design on her bodce is?

Nothing specifically - it's actually a cross between the old alchemical symbols for Antimony and Mercury. I really dig old alchemical texts and stuff =)

There's something quite different about "Violet Eyes"...the contrast is upped a lot so she looks a lot more 3D, in my opinion. I like her a lot. "Aquamarine Mermaid" looks great too, she reminds me more of your faces from a few months ago (before you underwent a couple face changes around the second Alice painting). And there's been plenty of compliments about "Her Eyes Were Emerald..." ^_^ Ai, I love them all!

Thanks!! >^_^<

I see what you mean - I've got a few different facial styles I use, sometimes I go through phases. They are all based on my own face actually! I have a very round forehead and cheeks, but I have a very pointy chin and sharp jawline. I've got very large eyes with no lower eyelid to speak of, and a very small mouth (I have the world's smallest lips, no matter how much lip liner I use, lol). I always thought I was strange looking (models in magazines always have narrow faces and big full lips) so I started painting girls that look like me. When people think my paintings are beautiful it makes me happy that maybe my ideals of beauty help make people more accepting of what a beautiful person looks like. You might notice also that my girls are very slim, with not too much in the bosom department (kind of based on myself too) - that's kind of my backlash against the stereotypical overly voluptuous women usually depicted in fantasy art!

Besides, when I use myself for a model I don't have to pay any sitting fees, hehe.

Oh I totally agree with you, artist really often make faces or bodies very similar to them...
Your art REALLY look like you and it makes them deeply unique and fascinating!

Lot of my art look like me too, I mean, I have a big mouth, very round cheeks, and my nose is not 'big' but not very small too lol ... I often use my face for art like this one http://www.zerick.com/images/GothicBabe8.jpg
( well of course, I'm not as sexy as her LOL )
And lol, as for me I really have some difficulties
to do very slim character because I'm my self a kind
of stereotypical fantasy girl LOL, even more since I got a baby ... lol ... it's why my women are always very voluptuous body ... lol But I think it's interesting to show that these kind of 'babe' can also be sad, mysterious or strange ... like on this one
http://www.zerick.com/images/DevilWoman6.jpg
Fist look, she like like a typical babe for tattoos lol, but when you look at her more than couple of seconds, you can find very interesting 'feelings' around her ... same thing for that one too ...
http://www.zerick.com/images/GothicBabe11.jpg
I really love to play with stereotypical 'sexy ladies' and goth/dark/bloody/sadness things together ... it sometime give a funny/weird look like this ... http://www.zerick.com/images/GothicBabe21.jpg

^_^ btw, it's why I deeply HATE when I saw art on ebay from peoples who tried to do the same face than yours .... that make no senses at all ...

All three are beautiful! I was watching you paint "Aquamarine Mermaid" the other day but I couldn't quite get a good enough look to see exactly what it was! I love the aquamarine color! It's so pretty!

Well, I was going to pick a favourite, but then I couldn't. They're all incredibly lovely, in different ways.
