Preparing to paint (god, I use this for my subject too much...) [Jun. 28th, 2003|01:04 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Ok - I finished up "The Chosen One" as well as my dragonfly painting in the wee hours of the morning =) Right now, I'm working on a piece I'm calling "Widow's Walk". For those of you who don't know, a "widow's walk" is an architectural term referring to the sort of wrought-iron railing balcony type things that are on the roofs of many old Victorian homes. Here are some examples: (look at the rooftops) here,
here, and here
So far I've got the railing against a dark stormy sky. The whole piece is in black and white - I'm not sure if I'll add colour. Maybe a little bit. I'm thinking about putting in a ghostly figure - similar to my "Empty Tomb" painting.
I'm also thinking about doing a piece with a girl holding a lantern, or a candle, or maybe even some sort of jewel. Rather than it illuminating the area around it, it will be darkening it. Like the opposite of a light source, if that makes any sense. I'll have to work out the logistics of it though ;)
OK - I'm off to work! I ran some errands this morning, and I'm itching to paint. You can watch my progress here!
Tonight I'll be putting up "Red Sky at Night", "The Chosen One", "Faerie of the Dragonflies", and maybe "Widow's Walk" (if I finish her) all up on eBay for 10-day auctions ending upon my return =)
