Preparing to Paint! [Jun. 26th, 2003|03:04 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
I'm getting ready to paint =)

Not sure what I'll be doing first - I might just start painting and see what shows up. I've got a few specific pieces I'll be working on, but I'm not sure in what order. I'll probably start my dragonfly painting in the next day or two. There's a little bit of a story behind it - basically a fan of mine wanted me to design a tattoo of a dragonfly for her, but she didn't have the budget for a commission, so I let her tell me what she'd like the dragonfly to look like and I promised to include at least one dragonfly in a new painting of mine. I'm going to auction the finished piece, but I'll give her a scan of the dragonfly part for her to use for the tattoo =) It's amazing - I've had over a dozen people in the past month or so get tattoos of my artwork (that I know of!). It's an amazing compliment to me as an artist!

I might do some more bio-mechanical type pieces - I've been discussing such things with the wonderful David Gough mercury_realm. He's a great fantasy artist (he's going to put up some work on eBay soon, so keep an eye out for it!) who paints gorgeous mermaids, biomorphic dark fantasy, etc. I did a lot of "Giger-esque" artwork when I was in school - I think I might look through some of my old sketchbooks and see if I find any new (old?)inspiration from them.... Which reminds me - before I moved I was going to post some of my old artwork (well, from middle school or high school)here on LJ! I'll look through some boxes and see what I can find....

But for now I'm going to start painting! I might be on and off, but you can watch me work on my webcam =)

It depends on what the customer is actually commissioning. Usually they just commission a normal 8"x10" painting and then have the tattoo artist work from that (and then they have the original painting to hang up too). I do some digital designs, which I usually charge $100-$150 for depending on how intricate or specific they are and then I send them a file or a print to work from. A lot of times though, they just get a tattoo of one of my already-finished paintings, which is free =)

OH Jasmine! I can't wait to see a Giger-esque painting! How marvelous! I am absotluetly in LOVE with the art of Giger. He is one of my favorite artists of all time. He puts so much detail and patterns into his work, it is just amazing! And he is quite unique which is something I tend to look for in art.

When jasmine and I first met =)

Jasmine and I met years ago over the internet (I should post the whole story sometime)and I noticed that she said that art was one of her interests and that she was an artist. At first I thought to myself-Yeah, I have a lot of friends who are "artists"-, but then she showed me her sketchbooks and I was more than "wowed". Her art was Giger influenced, but it had its own style some sort of loneliness that is hard to place. Every page I turned in the book brought me closer to her it was something I had to have. We still have that book and I cherish it. She also made me my very own sketchbook filled with Jasmine art for my birthday the first year we met. Those things are priceless to me..those things she created.

Wow-thats amazing. We share that in common, because Lani <ljuser=la_lune> met over the internet too. It's quite something to discover your soulmate that way isn't it, like being lost in an ocean of wilderness, and finding words of comfort from a goddess in a passing bottle.
We really must swap stories sometime.
We're both lucky guys it seems.

*blushes

I really don't know what else to say, except thank you-you're a true friend:)
I really look forward to seing some Giger styled pieces from you, I think it would be cool to see your very distinctive characterisations married with that sort of wierdness-what an odd juxtaposition they'd make.

And I don't know about you,but if I had a pound for everytime someone wanted to use my work as a tatoo, I wouldn't need e-Bay:)

Re: *blushes

Hehe - that's the truth!!! I have no idea how many folks out there have my artwork inked on them. :::Anybody out there - drop me an email with a photo!!:::

It's particularly strange with my pieces that are self-portraits - it sometimes creeps me out a little to think my visage is permanently affixed to somebody's skin.... I know a couple of people who have tattoos of my "Sisters" painting (based off of myself and my two sisters). It was just a little piece I did for my mom on Mother's Day, lol. I told my sister that she's tattooed on a couple of people - it was funny!

Your signature as a tattoo is a neat idea! I don't know if I've known anybody other than you who's done that - it's perfect for an artist =)

I thought so, too! If you've seen my sig, I start with a really whimsical heart, much like my sculpted heart paintings- then it flows into the L... and that's all I got. It hurt. LOL

Your sig is totally identifiable, too - you should brand yourself, woman! : D
