Yesterday I finished another New Orleans cemetery inspired piece =- I think I'm calling it "The Haunted Tomb". I'll post pics later - it features an above ground tomb (based on one in Lafayette cemetery in the Garden District - taken from one of my vacation photos). It is one of the "empty" tombs - it once held two bodies, but both of the mausoleum fronts are missing, which is pretty darned creepy - just two black holes... Click below to see the photo of the real tomb -

In my painting though, I have a ghost-girl instead of Matt ;)

The other piece I finished is called "Absinthe Afternoon". Sort of a take-off of Degas' "The Absinthe Drinkers". Well, kinda. A cute girl with a glass of absinthe at least. She's sitting next to an enormous window with showing an absinthe coloured sky outdoors, and her eyes are absinthe coloured. I like the piece a lot - it has something Edward Gorey-ish about it (not in style at all, being a full colour acrylic painting - there's just something about it...).

I also worked on some commissions (I got a lot done yesterday!). Today I am going to paint some more in just a few minutes (click here for the webcam!). I'll probably paint most of the day (Matt's at work of course) and then tonight I will scan in this weekend's work and post it on eBay! I'll post links here too of course =)

Creepy is right! I remember one tomb that had the front cement all smashed in and broken. Everyone was trying to look inside :P

Paint, Paint, Paint! :) I'll be watching for your new ones tonight!!

The New Orleans cemetery inspired piece sounds great! I can't wait to see it!

I must go to the Lafayette Cemetery! Just from the one picture you posted, I'd love it there! Those holes are creepy!

The "Absinthe Afternoon" piece sounds great as well! I love Edward Gorey!

Darn it! Whenever I check the webcam lately your not there! :(

Ahhhh....

I need to remember to put the BRB sign up when I'm going to be gone for any length of time, sorry!

I painted a new piece earlier today, but for the past hour or two I've been scanning in all my recent work, pieceing it together in Photoshop and preparing my auctions =P

Lafayette Cemetery is the best! It's in a great residential neighborhood (the Garden District) and a little off the beaten path so it's not so touristy. If you take the scenic route walking from the streetcar stop, you go by both Anne Rice's house and Trent Reznor's! The cemetery is RIGHT across the street (you can see it from the restaurant across the narrow street - it's cool) is Commander's Palace (a fantastic restaurant inside of an old Victorian home) which was recently voted the "Best Restaurant in North America" =)

Ooooh I really want to go to the Lafayette Cemetery now! It all sounds so super cool there! Plus, you go right by Trent Reznor's house?! My! =)

Re: Ahhhh....

Trent has one of the most lovely homes I've ever seen - an enormous Greek Revival mansion with a very manicured lawn/garden. We saw his doggie, lol. Anne Rice's home is also absolutely gorgeous - it's just a few blocks over. We heard her talking to a deliveryman through her intercom system and we saw her limo parked out front, hehe. We were just walking by - honest - we weren't hiding in the bushes or anything, lol.

Eep! I was planning on entering it, but I ran late... the show does say "through 06/22"...hmmm... I've got an hour... I think I'll send it desperately to Amie - who knows?

Hehe - it does look like that "outer glow" effect in Photoshop! I was careful to emphasize that this is indeed an acrylic painting - it looks almost digital with the glowing outlines =)

Did you submit to Roots? You were supposed to submit through your login. Sorry I didn't see this until now and it's 2AM.

See you have such precision that even Photoshop tries to emulate you :)

Ah, no - I got Amie's email telling me how to submit it at the website, but then my internet connection was dodgy so I just went to sleep =P Ah well. I love the new website setup though - I'll definitely try to get into the next shows! I'm looking forward to the "Road Trip" one coming later this year - I'm going to start planning now, hehe.
