Painting =) [Jun. 20th, 2003|03:51 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Ah.... the weekend.... where Matt is gone at work everyday and I too must work everyday, all day...

I've never had "weekends" really. Starting when I was a kid working at Dairy Queen, I've pretty much worked every weekend since then, lol. The days off I've had have generally been weekdays, and those were school days. Now of course that I'm self employed, I just work all the time, lol. At least I've got a job I like ;)

Enough reminiscing =)

Morgan Le Fay is going up on eBay at 7:45 PM Central Time tonight - starting at a penny =) I'll post a link when it starts!

I've been looking through photos from our last vacation to New Orleans. I'm going to paint something New Orleans-inspired, probably some scene based on Lafayette Cemetery. I've started painting - you can watch me here: my webcam

I'd really like to go to New Orleans again soon! I'll probably plan on going there for our next vacation. Excepting of course our trip to Kansas City for the Fourth of July, and my trip to Kansas City the first week of August (and probably many subsequent trips back to KC, lol). I love New Orleans - I like wandering through the gorgeous homes of the Garden District, riding on the streetcar, eating at incredible restaurants, lovely clothes, museums, music, shopping, swamps, cemeteries, plantations, alcohol, the Zoo, the Aquarium, etc. etc. etc.

OK now, back to painting....

I know how you feel about the weekends! Since I was 15 I have worked on the weekend. First I was working at my parents' restaurant on the weekend (stopped a few months ago b/c of school), I now babysit for them on the weekend, and paint. My boyfriend works on the weekend too (he's a cook at applebee's) I don't know who these people are that actually have weekends off, lol.

Ah, I'm jealous of your vacations! Randy and I have never had the money to do anything, we never even went on a honeymoon! We both want to go to New Orleans someday, and I want to take Randy to England (I go tto go there ages ago, and want to go back). I'm thinking we'll have to wait until the magical money fairy godmother drops a load of cash on us. :)

Hehe - we pretty much live for vacations!!! We scrimp and save in between vacations, just so we can afford to travel =)

We used to go to Florida a couple of times a year, so now that we already live here we get to pick more places to visit, lol.

Oh wow - England? I'd LOVE to go there - it's on my list!

Weekends? What are those?

Ohh is New Orleans where you've been getting the inspiration for those hanging viney plants? What do you call those, they're neat! Would you move to New Orleans?

Actually, most of the flora in my paintings are inspired by the Florida jungles around here - but Louisiana does have a very similar climate. Most of the hanginess in my pieces is based off of Spanish Moss, other bromeliads, or the ever present Kudzu vines =)

When I first decided to move "somewhere warm" I did think about moving to New Orleans. Problem is, the only neighborhoods there I'd really like to live in (the Garden District, Audubon Park, or the French Quarter) are wayyyy to pricey for me! Someday when I'm a millionaire I'd love to have a nice mansion next to Anne Rice and Trent Reznor in the Garden District though, maybe as a second home (lol!). I'd love to have a little gallery in the Quarter - it would be perfect for that sort of thing!

YES exactly what I was thinking for you! Well maybe next year you can move there ;)

Lafayette Cemetery. That place is great! I saw the painting earlier and it's looking really good :) New Orleans is nice to visit but I don't think I'd want to live there. Way too much crime in that little city for me.

Yeah - that's the truth! That's one of the reasons we decided to move here instead. We got enough %&*# crime back in Kansas City. Believe it or not, we had almost 8 times the murder rate of New York City there (almost tied with New Orleans, lol). I can't even remember how many times in my life living in KC I had my car and my house broken into. The last time my home was burglarized so horribly I had nightmares the whole time I lived in that house. A lot of my artwork and personal items were stolen. =( Shortly before we left our van was stolen, and that was the last straw! I'm kind of jaded towards big cities right now, lol.

Re:

How Scary!! My parents have had 2 of their cars broken into but that's about it. They took my brother's radio and cds. In my mom's van they took her radio but LOL!! they left her cds! Because they are all Broadway musicals like Annie, Sweeney Todd, Chicago, Cats....I think you get the idea ;) The burglars were probably like what's this junk? Hehe! We joke with her about it all the time.

You are so lucky to have a job that you like! And are talented enough to make a living at it! I've hated every job I've ever had! :(

Thank you =)

I try not to take it for granted, and to feel grateful about it every day!
