Awesome new painting - "Still Life with a Mermaid" - new #01 Canvas Prints - Vampires.... [Mar. 24th, 2009|06:17 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Whee! I've been painting a lot lately. Commissions, concept art, Bradford Group stuff, and not to mention all the new paintings I'm bringing to the art show in less than two weeks.....

Been busy!

Hey - I have a movie to recommend! A vampire movie from Sweden - it's called "Let the Right One In" (Låt den rätte komma in) - here's the IMDB profile - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1139797/ Excellent movie, well done, Highly recommended - I got it from Netflix. Anyone else see it? Anybody read the book?

Art stuff......

First off, another new painting I did last night ("Still Life with a Mermaid"!) - one of the most beautiful & unusual paintings I've done! Also I have the "Still Life with a Mermaid" prints on SALE, and the new #01 Canvases for some of my latest paintings - Lela, Dress of Alchemy, Voodoo in Blue, and Pink Lightning - all starting at just ONE PENNY!!

Firstly - the new painting - "Still Life with a Mermaid"! A still life! Sort of, there is a wiggly little mermaid in there too. Being a fantasy artist I don't paint "from life" often (it's hard to get faeries to sit still). But I enjoy traditional still lifes a lot, so I thought I'd do one with a fantasy touch. So I set up a lot of my favourite sea shells by my art desk, arranged them nicely, shone a light on them and painted them (they're mostly from Shell World down the street, hehe). I'm very proud of this painting, it's quite different from most of my other pieces and I'd like to paint more along a similar vein. There's a conch shell, a starfish, and an abalone in there (that's what the mermaid cutie is lounging in). The original painting itself will be at the Celebration Spring Art Festival, so it's not available for sale at this time. But lucky for you - I went ahead and made advance PRINTS for you online folks who aren't able to attnend the show, and they are on sale and available right now! These are GORGEOUS! Please click on the links below to see all the close-up details of the painting - the shells & mermaid are lovely and there is a lot going on you can't see just from this small image! Click below to see.....

(the image above is of the original painting in its frame. The prints are rectangular and show the whole painting as a rectangle - you could always put them in oval frames too though for that oval-ly look).

Still Life with a Mermaid 8"x10" prints on SALE - $9.99

Still Life with a Mermaid 12"x16" BIG prints on SALE - $20

I keep hearing lots of great things about that movie! I usually don't do well with scary movies, but I really want to see this one. I have it in my queue. :)

i have a conch like that!
after that movie sunk in and i found myself watching it twice, then 3 times~(i rarely ever do that), today someone else who saw it said it was "ok". i wanted to strangle em. it takes a refined taste, i think.

I saw Let the Right One In last week, I thought it was really well done too. I hear they're making an American version next year.
