"Bleak Mourning" original painting, and Kitsune prints! [Oct. 22nd, 2007|06:21 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
Hi everyone!

How's everybody doing? I haven't had much online time lately, with convention season in full force, but now I'm getting caught up and slowly getting back into the swing of things.

I'm excited about Halloween! Carrie - tigerpixieart - and her family are coming to trick-or-treat around my house. That'll be fun!

Day after tomorrow my cousins Annie & Matt are stopping by, just off the boat from London, picking up some of their stuff we've been keeping for them here on their way up to the airport.

Let me see.... what else is new.... mostly just working hard, really. Getting a lot done though, so that's good. Slowly making a dent in my email inbox.

I have a brand new painting - "Bleak Mourning." It is a melancholy, bleak, slightly creepy piece - a grieving young woman in Victorian mourning attire, standing in a desolate landscape - a funeral carriage pulled by a skeletal horse behind her. In her hand is a piece of jewelry unique to the Victorian era - a mourning hair locket - basically a lock of the deceased's hair, turned into jewelry. An odd custom perhaps, but nonetheless interesting. I painted this piece with a limited palette - slightly reminiscent of an old fashioned photo! . "Bleak Mourning" is a 20"x16" painting (acrylic on a sheet of canvas) and is up for sale on eBay - a seven day auction starting at ONE PENNY with no reserve - ending on the evening of Monday, October 29th at 5:08 PM CENTRAL TIME and you can see her here - just click below on the sneak preview image to see the full painting:

She is up for a 7-day auctions starting at just ONE PENNY ending the evening of Monday, October 29th at 4:59 PM Central Time and you can see her below:

Alice in wonderland panting

Can I use one or maybe two of your alice in wonderland paintings for invitations to an alice in wonderland birthday party? Does that cost money and if so how much for about 15-20 invitations? I am still in the beginning planning stages for the party (it isn't untill January) so I haven't organized the invitation list yet.

Re: Alice in wonderland panting

Sure - as long as they are for personal use (not to be sold, or for business promotion, etc.) - you're welcome to it =)

It'd be great if somewhere (like on the back) you could credit ©Jasmine Becket-Griffith www.strangeling.com

=)

Oh wow, that new painting has to be one of my favorites! My sister is a genealogist, and she has a mourning broach from one of our ancestors. He was a doctor and he died in 1815, and the broach has that date engraved on it, and you can clearly see the lock of hair inside. It's so cool, but we keep it in my parents' safe so nothing happens to it.

Thank you Becca!

That is so neat! I've always thought that's such a cool tradition. It's awesome that you actually have one, and from an ancestor!

Bleak Mourning is gorgeous!!! Will you have prints available? I'd love a smaller print. 5 X 7 size if possible( or whatever the size you sold at FaerieCon).

Thank you Shelley!!!!

With the 4x6s I only have those for shows (I get those ones mass-produced, so I can't get one single one made really). However - can make you a 5x7 here at home - just drop me an email and I'll let you know the details =)

Jasmine. your work continues to amaze me... Its beautifully done...I love the " dusty" colours you used in this one.. it gives it a foggy sepia look.. like an old photograph.

Lovely

Bleak Mourning

Hi Jasmine,

Just wanted to say this painting really is ethereal and haunting at the same time and oh so vivid and beautiful. Thanks for sharing it with us.

The colors swirl around her pain and the landscape just envelopes her fine.

Time eases the pain slightly, but never erases the memory of our loved ones. The soul lingers on forevermore. RIP

Presently Grieving

Very beautiful! I love your use of the subdued, limited palette, and the horse skeleton is excellent. I'm reading Dickens' "Bleak House" at the moment, at this painting reminds me of it. :)
