I have a new MEDUSA painting...and a new KITTY! [Jan. 17th, 2007|09:18 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
So the other day I was browsing Petfinder.com (best place in the world to find your next pet!), and I came across a sweet looking feral/wild mother cat named "Mama Wolf". She looked so cute, was a rescue, spayed, sounded like she had a good personality, and since we only have one cat now and we have room for two, we made an appointment to see her today. And we adopted her!

She is such a sweetie. She can't meow, she just opens her mouth and croaks or makes no noise, it's really cute, lol. She is small, kind of long haired, a couple of years old, tabby-ish - she looks a lot like a bobcat or a lynx, but has a huge fluffy tail. She has been hiding under our couch most of the day, but is now wandering around the house wanting to be cozy with us. She's still not too sure about Azrael (our other kitty) - he's a little too curious and too friendly, so she's hissed at him a few times. But overall I think that they will get along fine. I thought that her given name "Mama Wolf" was really cute and it suits her, so we'll probably just keep her with that name.

I'll try to get some pictures of her up asap! She was from this rescue group:

http://itsaboutcats.rescuegroups.org - but her page is gone now since she's been adopted, hehe. Her kittens are there though - Hershey2, Sparky2 & Milkdud - I met them today too, they are very sweet.

In other news - I have a brand new FRAMED original painting! Yep, another framed one. I sold both of the framed originals from my eBay store this week, so I thought I'd get another up there. If nobody buys it in the next couple of weeks I will be bringing it with me to Mega-Con in Orlando to show there. It is a portrait of Medusa! I painted another Medusa about six years ago, but I'm a much better painter now so I thought I'd give her another try, and I'm glad I did - this one turned out beautifully. Another painting with a LOT of detail, all of those snakes.... click below to see her....

"Portrait of Medusa" ORIGINAL PAINTING FRAMED OVAL

Neat, eh? I love painting on oval canvases! She's up for a fixed price, but I'm always open to "Best Offers" if you have another price in mind.

I also have a couple of new #01 Lt. Ed. Hand Embellished Canvas prints available:

"Pearl Dragon Princess" #01 Lt. Ed. CANVAS Print

& "Sad, Sad Song" #01 Lt. Ed. CANVAS Print

And the same two images are also available as open edition prints on SALE this week, to see all of my current SALE prints together, click HERE! or individually below:

"Sad, Sad Song" 8x10 SALE PRINT $10 & "Sad, Sad Song" 12x16 SALE PRINT $20:

"Pearl Dragon Princess" 8x10 SALE PRINT $10 & "Pearl Dragon Princess" 12x16 SALE PRINT $20

Next up are the ACEOs - for more info about ACEO cards, how I make them & what they are, consult the individual auction descriptions - they are each one of a kind and are very pretty. To see them all together visit the ACEO section of my store by clicking HERE, or individually below:

"Orca Magic" ACEO
& "Swamp Beauty" ACEO
& "Dark Dragon" ACEO
& "Nude Fairy Drake" ACEO
& "Lily White Streaks" ACEO
& "Wee Red Dragon" ACEO
& "Spooky Green Eyes" ACEO
& "Fairy Group Portrait 2" ACEO
& "Be My Valentine" ACEO
& "A Valentine Scorned" ACEO

Wheee! I think that's everything! My mom & stepdad just flew back home yesterday, they had a great visit. Friday, my sister Kachina, her husband James, and their kids Eleanor & Theodore will be here for their vacation, that will be fun to see them (and they'll get to meet my new kitty!).

I'll try to catch up on LiveJournal asap - hope you all are doing well, and enjoy the new artwork!

EDIT: 11:01PM EST - thank you Athena! Here is the link to Mama Wolf's page at the shelter, for those of you who are interested in seeing her:

Only hissed at him a few times? Sounds like it's going well! Zorro, my cat, freaked out when I brought Amazu home. Now they're cuddle buddies :)

Mama Wolf sounds adorable! Are you keeping the name?

I'm so happy that they get along, I was really worried about that. They seem to be having a lot of fun, Azrael has turned into a kitten again.

Yep! We're keeping the name "Mama Wolf" - I think it's cute, and it suits her.

Thank you Dawn! I had a snake identification guide to inspire me, lol - most of them are imaginary snakes though.

Wow Jasmine! Your new kitty sounds so sweet! She sounds like she might be a Maine Coon. Or be partially. We have a Maine Coon, his name is Barbarossa. And rather than meowing like a kitty he usually coos like a dove or makes this odd chirping noise. It's great. :)

Medusa looks AWESOME! My boss went as Medusa for halloween. She had her hair up in curls and snakes made out of pipe cleaners and googly eyes. It was great! She even had one two-headed on in there hee hee.
I really love the eyes in this piece, they really give a mysterious vibe! :)

Awww! How cute!

Definitely - I was looking at cat pictures online and I'm sure she is pretty much Maine Coon (brown mackerel colour). She has the "foot tufts" in between her toes and the feather duster tail. She is small though, but that is probably because she was feral and had a couple of litters of kittens before age two, that most likely stunted her growth.

Thank you!!

The new painting is beautiful, and I hate snakes, but you made them loook beautiful. And CONGRATS on the new kitty!!!! They are such amazing creatures, and they bring such joy to our lives. Everytime one of my kitties passes on, I just think that somewhere another kitty needs me, and it looks like there was a kitty that needed you and Matt. Post some pics of her soon!! :)

It does sound like something Theo would say, lol.

Right after you guys left, Mama Wolf & Azrael came downstairs and have been hanging out with us the whole time. I think they could sense that Theo & Ellie were gone, hehe.

I love this painting!

This is a beautiful painting. I love it. You continue to make me just go blank. Just when I think you have done your very best on the last few. WOW! You are amazing.
Have a question for you too! What kind of scanner do you recomend? Which do you use? Bruce was nice enough to get me a combo deal for Christmas. Just doesn't seem to scan great clarity. Let me know when you have prints on this new painting! I just love it and so does Kelsey!
Hugs,
Kimberly

mama wolf

hey...mama wolf is gorgeous! i had a sneak pic at the link for her. i really respect that you and matt chose a cat rather than a kitten to adopt - quite often people only want kittens cause they're little and cute and the big cats get left behind...
i'm sure she'll be the star of one of your paintings in the near future! *hint hint nudge nudge*

Re: mama wolf

Thank you so much!

I am a big proponent of pet adoptions, it is an important issue with me, I always choose adoption =) Grownup kitties need love too, hehe.

Definitely - I am planning to paint her soon!

She has adjusted really well, we love her so much already. I can't hardly believe that she was a feral rescue, she is so well-behaved, uses her litter box & scratching post every time, and loves us to death - she is always purring! I'm so thankful that she is getting along well with Azrael too, that is a relief.

OWww that's such a coincidence that you are painting her.
I was thinking of painting Medusa too because my mum is going to make me a costume of her for the upcoming Elf Fantasy Fair. That way she could use it as reference.
I ordered vinyl snakes from the US that we are going to use for the costume. If it's done I'll definately show you, haha. It ought to be such a cool costume. And this painting is just plain awesome! :D
You are doing so much different work at the moment and I really love it.

Lovely painting Jasmine! I hope it sells soon! Your new kitty is very cute! Is it just me for does it look as though someone is holding that poor cat by the throat in that picture haha! I just love happy ending stories. I think its great when people rescue. Tom and I just rescued a barn kitten that was far to friendly to be an outdoor cat last Saturday. Id say she is about 4-5 months at most. Shes all black with golden eyes. We gave her to my hubbys mom, she talked about getting a kitten but never made the move on her own. We already have two grown cats haha. I should post pics of the kitten soon.

i LOVE the painting!
i love portraits of either literary or mythological (or imaginary) subjects. that's what i've been working on lately, also. it's funny, it seems like a lot of times i'll be working on somehing and then i check in on what you're doing and it's in a pretty similar vein. :)

will you offer prints of her even tho she's oval? i saw a frame like that at michael's so i'd get one of those to frame her in. ;)

I hope to offer prints of her soon - I'm not sure how I'll format them on the rectangular paper though - probably with a white or black background....
