New painting, other new art, etc. etc. etc. [Oct. 3rd, 2006|08:44 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
I'm finally falling back into day-to-day life after the painting intensive. Of course day-to-day life for me always includes painting all day, lol, so maybe it's not so different after all. At any rate, after the painting retreat and this upcoming week, my painting hand will be thanking me for taking an actual non-work-related vacation!

I have been working on an oil painting - a stylized portrait of Marie Antoinette - I'm just working on her on and off while I do my usual paintings - I might get her finished before I leave though, I don't know yet if it will be one I'll sell or not, I will keep you posted either way.

In the meantime, I have some more new art stuff! A new painting, a couple of more original Zippo production drawings (along with the corresponding lighters), and a new Hot Topic item.

****PLEASE NOTE****
I will be out of town (once again, but this will be vacation, not work-related!) from October 6th - October 15th. I will have limited access during that time so my eBay store will be put on pause. This will not affect my usual eBay auction-style listings and my website will be running as normal, so still feel free to bid & buy while I am gone. If you have a current order with me and would like your order shipped before I leave for my trip, please send payment before this Thursday evening, October 5th at 6:00PM Eastern Time. Orders placed and paid for after that time will be shipped upon my return on the 15th.
*******************

Okay now! Here is my latest original painting - she is a beautiful painting in her own right, but she would also make a beautiful Halloween decoration that could be treasured by generations to come. One of my paintings on a wood slice with bark - very cool! Click below to see:

"Little Witch Wood" ORIGINAL PAINTING ON WOOD

Isn't she cute?

Next up are two more ORIGINAL drawings I did for Zippo. These are line-art for the images they licensed from me for lighters. Not only do you get the original artwork, you also get one of the collectible metal lighters! These are the last couple for now (there are four total).

"A Walk Through the Cemetery" ORIGINAL DRAWING & ZIPPO LIGHTER

"A Little Batty" ORIGINAL DRAWING & ZIPPO LIGHTER

Then also I have a new item in the Hot Topic stores, you can also see it on their website - a 6" vinyl sticker based on my "My Three Kitties" painting - too cute! (and only $2.99!!):

and to see my other items at Hot Topic's website CLICK HERE!

Let me think.....not much else is going on. I've been catching up madly on work and painting a lot, trying to get everything done before we leave on our trip at the end of this week. I feel silly for having scheduled our vacation so close to the oil painting class retreat, but at the time I booked it I didn't know when the class would be. Busy times indeed.

I'm not done painting for today either - I'll be working on the Marie Antoinette oil painting on my webcam - you can watch me here:

Off I go!

Your Marie Antoinette already looks very pretty! I can't wait to see the finished oil painting.

I saw a PBS bio of her a few nights ago. It was surprising to learn that she was married to the King of France at the age of 14.

Thank you very much! I'll probably finish her up when I get back from my trip. It's kind of a fairy themed painting that is inspired by the Marie Antoinette style....

She really did have a crazy, fascinating and ultimately sad life. I'm looking forward to the Sofia Coppola movie coming out soon....

Very cute sketches/lighters Jasmine!

Glad you had a great painting retreat with Larry! I loved his work (along with fellow TSR artists Jeff Easley, Fred Fields, Clyde Caldwell & Keith Parkinson) when I was younger.

Hope you and Matt have a great vacation!!

Thank you Adam! The old TSR art is pretty much the whole reason I became interested in pursuing fantasy art as a career, I owe Larry a lot.

I went to his retreat back in March too. Next year I'm going with him and some other fantasy artists for an "art vacation" in France!

Matt & I are so excited for our trip! We bought some much needed new luggage today, so we're pretty much all set after we send out some last minute print orders >^___^

ROBYN HITCHCOCK?

I know you are probably busy busy, but just on the off chance and for a general fyi:

Robyn Hitchcock is playing at The Magic Bag in Detroit (not that it's close to you...nowhere he plays is, though) and I'm a-gonna go. He's also playing the night before in Chicago. I'm going to the Detroit show mainly because Andrew (of Valerie and Andrew Thompson fame) lives there and he is super psyched about going and since I love RH and Andrew what better thing than both at the same time?

Anyway...if you are interested you should come, too. Even though flying to Detroit on a whim sounds fairly rediculous...more rediculous things have been done.

Re: ROBYN HITCHCOCK?

It's November 9th at The Magic Bag (cool bar 2 miles from andrew's house) in Detroit and I assume he plays at standard bar time (9/10ish)

The October 8th gig in Chicago...I don't know where that one is but it's on his tour date list.

I'm searching frantically for airline tickets that are as close to 200 bucks as possible. Seems like airlines are sooooo expensive these days. I think it was 260 when I went to visit Betsy in Colorado Springs....so far I've found 237 as the lowest price. Cost about that much in gas to drive the 12 hours there in back so I guess I may as well fly....oh well...you only live once.

Anyway, I'll be flying in to Detroit sometime the afternoon of the 9th and leaving that following Sunday for KC.

Re: ROBYN HITCHCOCK?

Aw shoot! On October 8th I'll be out of the country (hehe, four countries in seven days!), and November I'll be getting ready for the Renaissance Festival =P Darn you Robyn Hitchcock!

Re: ROBYN HITCHCOCK?

You should check his website, though, and see if he's gonna play anywhere reasonable in the distant future and block out some time to be able to go. He isn't old but he ain't gettin' any younger.

I'll take photos at the show if I can and send them to you!

Re: ROBYN HITCHCOCK?

Hehe, I've just bookmarked his tour page! I need to see him live. It scared me when Syd Barrett died (not that he was ever going to tour again) that I need to get out and see the bands I love while they are still around.

I was in CHIMERA today, a fantasy shop in Amsterdam and I saw loads of your cards there.
THey also have Amy Brown and a few others. I bought one of yours and when I was in the train home, I noticed something weird!
The card does not have your name on it ANYWHERE
Nothing at all is printed on it.

Luckily I took a pic of it for you.

Gosh - they look exactly like the Tree-Free cards I have licensed. Is there any information at all on the back fo the card?

Nothing at all. I think it has your Leo painting on the back, but slightly see thru.
I found that odd too. Why would they have the card with the other fairy on the front, and then a zodiac pic on the other side. Made no sense.
I had no idea untill I was in the train and got a better look at it.
Otherwise I could have asked for more information.

Here is their link
I hope you can get information from them.
They also had a T-shirt there with one of your paintings one it.

How weird! I emailed them. I think that they typically order my Tree-Free cards there =/ Somebody must be ripping them off.

Well the Tree-Free Cards have "Leo" on the back of all of their envelopes - maybe somebody scanned in the envelopes to put on the back. They're definitely all taken from my Tree-Free Cards - I recognize the cropping & editing (they always change the images a little - like with Devilish Fairy they gave her a red background instead of a black background, etc.). Hopefully they will write back to me soon.

I can't find the card I bought, I think my cousin must have taken it back with her stuff. Otherwise I would have scanned it in.

I can always call them if you don't get a reply from their email.
I am sure I can find their phone number.

Hopefully! They should have the info on the back though if they are legit. She's going to go look at the cards tomorrow and check with their distributor.

Thank you again so much Lindy for the head's up!

I just heard back from them again:

****
"I had a vew weeks ago a girl in the shop, I think dutch, who said she knows you very well, if she is the one that advised you I think it is strange, because she did not buy a card, nor looked at them from close.by they are in a celophan wrapping and the envelope covers the back, so there is no way to see if the printing was on it or not. but I know almost sure she did not touch them at all . If you have a blanc card it was 100% sure not bought in my shop."
****

- do you think that you saw the envelope on the back rather than the back of the card? The envelopes have my Leo painting on them (for all the cards).

I was there only a week ago...maybe she didnt mean me. I didn't mention to them that I knew you, I said it to my cousin, maybe she over heard. (I was a bit excited about it)
Grr, my cousin took the card with her by mistake and shelives in London, I will email her and ask her to scan it in for me.
I am sorry, I didn't mean to cause trouble for the shop or you :(

I will go mail me cousin right away.

Lol, not a problem! The lady gave me the order numbers from when she bought the cards from Tree-Free - I'm sure they're legit. I'll bet you actually saw the envelope maybe stuck to the back or something.

The lady there is very nice - she also is a customer with The Mountain for my shirts!
