work, work and more work [Aug. 26th, 2006|12:31 pm]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
And you can watch me while I work, on my webcam:

CLICK HERE to see me paint on my webcam!

Wednesday (or was it Tuesday? I forget!) we got to take a break from this work and met up with waltzingdog and her family at Downtown Disney! I've known Wendy for years online, but this is the first time we met in person. She got to present me with THIS QUILT she did of my Azrael and Quan-Yin kitties - it is even more beautiful in person!

Wendy is a wonderful person and has a great family. She is exactly how I thought she would be. It was so nice to spend the evening with them - we ate at Rainforest Cafe and did a lot of shopping at Downtown Disney (hitting the Lego store pretty hard!). It was so great to have an evening off from work too, hehe!

All Matt & I have been doing is preparing for Dragon*Con and of course the usual daily work (orders, etc.) on top of that. It is getting so crazy around here, I don't know where my actual "life" has gone sometimes. Big stacks of papers, canvases, frames, paintings, boxes, etc. are everywhere. I think just about all of the supplies arrived on time (still waiting on one of the rotating wire racks, crossing my fingers, but if worse comes to worst I'll be able to manage without it).

Making all of the canvas prints is quite time consuming, each one I hand embellish, sign & number, and then paint with multiple coats of varnish. Then Matt takes them and stretches them on canvas stretcher boards, and then I write all the stuff on the back. Each one takes a long time to do, and we have about a hundred of them total. He's also matting a lot of open edition prints too.

Then there are the originals! Wow, I can't believe how many people have been emailing me about my original paintings, and why I haven't been posting as many, lol! Glad to be missed =) I have lots of new paintings, but as I stated previously - they are going with me to Dragon*Con. I am still painting, I'm not sick, I haven't died, hehe - I am still cranking out the art - I am just not yet putting them on eBay because first they are going to Dragon*Con with me. I will probably offer up some canvas prints of them though tomorrow, so you all can at least see what I've been up to ;) And if they are not purchased at the convention, I will put them up for sale online upon my return. There are some especially good ones, and they are all beautifully framed.

Sheesh, I had originally intended on trying to update my website before we leave for the Con, but now that seems so laughable, there is just no way, we are SO down-to-the-wire on time now. What was I thinking?? Don't worry, I will be doing a major update when I get back home, I have so many paintings to add and tons of stuff for my fans' section as well.

Not much else going on - we've just been working from sun-up until midnight, not very exciting.

Back to work I go!

I know just from mailing in my little dispatch of prints to Dragoncon how stressful it is, so I don't envy you. I'm sure all the hard work will pay off, and I hope you sell out on it all Jasmine.

I wish I was going so we could meet you there:(

There's always next year.

ps: maybe you could send some of those Ebayers my way, heaven knows my auctions could do with it;)

That would be fun! We have 5 kitties too! (we used to have 6...) Now that the kids are going back to school I hope to get some more work done...

I still need to do a quilt of my sweet doggie Bosco... but he's immortalized in a Jasmine painting, too!

Awwww...Bosco. :-)

We've had a kitty in a critical care hospital since last Friday. I've met a lot of cool dogs there in the last week.

I will! It still trips me out that people buy prints of *my* doggies!! The one in the upper right of the painting was "Bosco" - he's the one "Waltzing Dog Studios" is named for (that's him in the icon)

I'm totally in love with my dogs, so I know very well how you feel! They are the purest hearts I know! :) So of course I can imagine how others would relate to and want to buy prints of your precious dogs! ;)

Jasmine - it was such a pleasure to meet you and Matt!! I was so happy to hand-deliver the quilt!! I wish we could have had more time just to chit-chat - but it was so fun! That red glass ball by the register we were admiring... it's funny - I told Ken later - it is always such a pleasure to spend time with another artist that "sees" things in such depth... I'm always looking at things and rearranging them in my mind... seeing other things in them... I really need to get my tookus back into the studio!

I can certainly see why you choose to live there ... everything is so magical! I felt like *such* a goob walking around with my mouth open and going "wow." every 2 minutes - but Downtown Disney was.... so very "WOW!"

I'm glad you folks could peel yourselves away from DragonCon-ness for a few hours - it was fun!

*warm hugs*
Wendy

Sorry to bother you at this busy time......

I only recently discovered your site and artwork.
Both are delightful!!
I am enjoying watching you work on the webcam, but...
is there a reason why the camera is tilted 90 degrees??
My neck is hurting!! (I know...I'm a whiner!!)
Michael.
PS...My hobby is airbrushing.
PS again...What's up with you Geminis and the old "B" grade movies??
My brother is a Gemini and he's always got an old sci-fi or western on!!
The stupider, the better it seems with him!!
It's fun to watch him watching.

Re: Sorry to bother you at this busy time......

Thank you very much Michael!

Yes, if the camera was straight on it would either be #1 - in MY way (and I'm painting, lol!) or #2 - on my head (and that would hurt MY neck ;P)

Don't know, but I sure dig B movies!

I'm so thrilled that you will be at Dragon*Con.
I think I have been following your work for about two years now, and I'm terribly excited to meet you in person.
Really, really, really.
Yay :)

Oh trust me, I definitely will. & I'll probably be in some form of a fairy costume half the time. I don't know if you've been to DCon before but if you haven't, you'll love it. It's pretty much a sense overload.
See you this weekend :)

Nope never been before! I wish I'd had the forethought to put together some kind of costume - that sounds like fun!

The first year that I went I thought I was going to have a heart attack over all the amazing costumes. I had one for every day planned out but I got so busy at work that I never got around to it; now i'm going to end up wearing one that differs a lot from the orginal idea & isn't quite what I wanted.. but it will be fun anyway.

The shopping is probably the best part of the convention though. All of the artists & vendors.. it's great.
