Goooood morning! [Aug. 28th, 2005|09:31 am]
Jasmine Becket-Griffith
I've been trying to catch up with internet, LJ & email stuff all morning =P Got some stuff done, but now I'm itching to paint!

I'm working on waltzingdog's Doggie Portrait for the EBSQ Pet Portrait Swap! You can peek in on me HERE if you like. Three doggies, and there might be some faeries tossed in for good measure.

I'm addicted to a salsa that I can only find in Kansas City. It is the HOT version of "Margarita's" salsa. Margarita's is a restaurant local to Kansas City, and they sell their salsa in local grocery stores there - you can't buy it here. I don't think I've ever even eaten at the restaurant, lol, but man it is some good salsa. Good and spicy, too. I am thoroughly addicted to it - I've eaten a whole jar in one day, sometimes with just a spoon. I filled a cart with it on my last trip to KC, I'm trying to work out a pattern where I buy as much as I will use until my next visit, but I just get through it so fast! I think they put heroin in it or something.... Seriously, I eat it a couple of times every day.

I also always buy Gate's BBQ sauce (hey - we vegetarians like BBQ'd stuff too!) - I can't find it around here, and it's the best. I usually only buy a couple of bottles of it though, I'm not an addict.

Now I'm getting hungry........ ;P

Gotta go paint though!

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Salsa!!!

It's NIKO!!!! Don't forget - he's blind in his left eye (the one on the right to us) - so that's why it looks weird in the pix. He was like that when we adopted him, and my theory is that he had been shot at - there are some pellets still in his leg below that eye :-(

I don't know much about dogs - how does that change how his eye looks physically? In the photos is very difficult to tell.

Like..... maybe he can see faeries out of it...? LOL!! Hmmm..... it doesn't reflect like the other. You know how when you get a photo and there are circular reflections in the eyes? That eye doesn't do that. LOL - then I keep thinking of Mad-Eye Moody from Harry Potter... LOL!!

Since in the painting I'm not making their pupils reflect hollow like a flash photo would, just a highight on the iris like in all of my paitings, should I be doing something different with one eye as opposed to the other? I'm not sure what you mean.

Hmmm... maybe just less hilite...? Or even a faint star or starburst in that eye...? (that's how I envision it...)

Okay - just fly up here and meet them, 'kay? LOL!!!

They are looking WONDERFUL!!!!!

I'm trying to get last night's pix of your kitties Photoshopped and watermarked to post today... >^..^

Ah, it's only in Kansas City - just a very local thing where they bottle it and have it in a few grocery stores.

Hm...I read in a community someone was mixing salsa and hummus. We have really good local hummus from a Lebanese place here called Karam's. The have a kick-ass garlic sauce as well. Maybe we'll have to do a trade sometime, salsa for hummus. ;-)

Margarita's salsa is good. We always have at least one jar in our house at all times(I have the same habit of eating it out of the jar). Maybe everybody will just have to start mailing it to you from Kansas City. My dad does that for my aunt who doesn't have Dorothy Lynch(a nasty salad dressing) in Indiana.

I am completely addicted to salsa as well *_* I Put it on EVERYTHING...

I think if they made Salsa perfume I would wear it.. O_O..Tho I would smell like an Onion...a Happy Onion....:D

I think the closest one is on Kirkman Road (exit 75B? The exit that is on the left of I-4!). Turn left onto Kirkman and go down two or three miles until you see a big shopping center on the left just before the Valencia campus. Mmm, good stuff.

one artist to another

I love your work. I'm an aspiring artist and yours just wows me. I'm going into graphic design but I'm minoring in art history. I wanted to just major in art but my parents said it wasn't an easy way to make a living so i should find some way to make a living while doing what I love. How did you start out? Well, You can text me anytime or add me to your friends list it's up to you. Until next time

Re: one artist to another

Lol, well that's what everybody told me too, so I now I get to say "I told you so!!" =P

I did waitress for a few years before I did art full-time though. I started trying to be a professional artist when I was about 18 (I'd been painting seriously since I was about 14, but didn't try to sell anything before that), but I was probably 22 before I could make a living at it.

I started with my little website, and my Elfwood ( www.elfwood.com ) and Epilogue ( www.epilogue.net ) galleries, and then I was approached by publishers & licensing agents who found my artwork online, & it just kind of grew from there.

Whether you study art in school or not, you can still be an artist. It requires no professional training, just dedication and lots & lots & lots of practice and refusing to give up ;)

Hi Jasmine,

The painting is so cute. To the owner of the doggies. They are cute!!!!!

Man, Jasmine, you sure can eat that Salsa. I know what you mean when you miss something from home. I am guilty of it. I lived in South Carolina for a year. I couldn't find my favorite food. So once a month my grandma would send me:

Grandma's home made tortillas, corn tortillas, goya products, My bid red (soda), Mexican chorizo. The stuff to make Menudo and to stuff to make tamales. Can't forget the 7-day candles. A must have item. So I know.

When my cousin Bel lived in Vermont I would send her chorizo ever month. Freeze it for a week and then mail it. It makes it, just fine.

have a good one everyone. To everyone who has friends and loved one in the areas hit by Hurricane. I hope they are all safe and that you hear from them soon.
